It'd be great to have NSW Cup become a test-bed for potential NRL bids, BUT with it currently being a de facto reserve grade, the NRL clubs in NSW Cup have an advantage over clubs that dont have a similar 1:1 feeder arrangement - particularly now that most of those are "in house" squads (only Newtown & Norths are currently co-opted by NRL clubs). Also a good proving ground for future expansion bids to iron out the kinks first
Eg Christchurch Fiji Adelaide
Queensland Cup is a fairer setup if we're looking to try potential NRL bid locations, just because you dont see that 1:1 relationship between state league and NRL clubs dominating.
Maybe that's a selling point of a NRL reserve grade competition - that it opens up the NSW Cup more for those far-flung clubs?
