Really concerned that an Ipswich Jets club will have too much of a Newtown Jets spin on it.
Listening to an interview with the CEO on Rat Pack RL podcast, he said the club would play in Newtown Jets colours when playing away in Sydney and be based at Henson Park when playing in Sydney.
After the Bears piggybacking onto the new Perth club, I just want the Ipswich Jets if it does become an NRL club to be a purely Queensland club with a strong nostalgic BRL feel to it

why are you concerned? only last year the jets discussed being a sort of partner with newtown anyways. the brand holds the power. it'll still be a seqld team no matter what. newtown doesnt have any resources to have sway. playing in colours blue and white is great nostalgic touch.

Yep. If both clubs are happy you can turn a West Brisbane club into a multi-state brand. Still play all home games in Queensland. And a bit of nostalgia to hook to real in families of the old Newtown fans that effectively costs the new club nothing.

If the nrl can pull off having clubs like bears and jets with substantial multi-state supporter bases and viewer interest that would be huge.

the Perth bears pulling big crowds and tv viewership on the east coast and Brisbane jets pulling in big numbers in Sydney would be a crazy unlock.

21 teams will be the sweet spot for a while. It will allow 9 games and a bye to give teams a rest.

22 can come in the 2040s with Adelaide.
Usually when there's an odd number of teams it only lasts 4 or 5 seasons before expansion evens the size.. for example 1984-87 NSWRL (4 seasons of 13 teams), 2002-2006 NRL (5 seasons of 15 teams), 2023-2026 NRL (4 seasons of 17 teams).

Given that PNG makes 19 teams in 2028, convention would have it that we get a 20th team debut 2033 at the latest (2028-2032 inclusive would be 5 seasons of 19 teams).

Longest scenario, we get 20 teams in 2033.. then 21 teams in 2034 (same staggered entry as Perth/PNG), then patterns of the, past would say at the most 2034-2038 would be 5 seasons of 21 teams & team 22 debuts in the 2039 season.

Putting team 22 into the 2040s would need spells of odd-sized competition lasting more then 5 seasons... unusual, BUT could be desirable to the NRL if player welfare & nurturing more depth demands a longer spell at 19 or 21 teams.... otherwise, maybe a big gap between 20 & 21/22.
