Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar will be having his first match in the UFC on sunday. He will be facing former UFC Heavyweight champion Frank Mir. If you look at Mir's past youd think that Lesnar would have no chance. A guy wrestling fans might know is former WCW wrestler Tank Abbott who fought in the UFC. Mir defeated him in under 30 seconds. Mir has beaten some of the best including Tim Sylvia (who will be fighting for the title on the same card) by breaking his arm in one of UFCs more graphic moments. But Mir hasnt been the same since a motorbike accident a few years ago and i predict a win for Brock Lesnar. anyone else interested in this? anyone buying this PPV and it being their first MMA ppv?

I have got each UFC Pay Per View since they came about here ... I experienced it first hand in the USA.

I cannot see Lesnar beating Mir ... if he can - great ... though highly unlikely.

I've gotten these plenty of times before, I was thinking of getting this, but a 1 week delayed broadcast? No thanks.

I think Lesnar will win, if he doesn't it will probably be due to his lack of experience, he'll be a good MMA fighter before too long if he sticks to it IMO.

I wouldn't discount Lesar...He's a big guy, he's athletic as hell, he's powerful and he has training as an amateur wrestler, so he knows all the choke holds and that...

I don't know - I wouldn't see it as a total shock if he won, to be honest.

It's incredible that Mir is even in the ring at all after that, but you're right he hasn't been the same since. Right before he won the Title he was dismantling guys in under 2 minutes but at times has struggled to even get unanimous decisions against lesser opponents since his return.

I really think Lesnar is going to win this. I'd love to see Mir back to his best, but I don't think it's going to happen and Lesnar is going to use what reputation Mir has left to really make a statement. I'd bet that's what the UFC is praying for, especially with the added advertising they've been giving the bout.

Frank Mir (Pictures) vs. Brock Lesnar (Pictures)
Round 1
Lesnar caught a kick and immediately took Mir down. From half-guard, Lesnar blasted away with elbows and punches. Steve Mazzagatti took a point away from Lesnar for hitting the back of the head. Lesnar dropped Mir with a right hand. Lesnar pounced with punches and had Mir hurt. Mir went for an armbar but Lesnar escaped and continued to tee off. As Lesnar went to posture up, Mir locked on a kneebar that forced Lesnar to tapout at 1:30 of the first.

Wonder if Lesnar will go back to the WWE if his UFC career completely fails.

Fight #8:
-Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir

Round 1: Kurt Angle and The Undertaker were both shown on screen with name labels to the live and PPV audience as both fighters were in the cage before the introductions. Now they just showed "Stone Cold" Steve Austin with a beer in his hand. Crowd cheered big for Austin. Bruce Buffer announces, with great passion, "the former WWE superstar - Brock Lesnar!" Now Sable is shown on screen. And it's time for round one. Lesnar immediately takes Mir down and has half guard. Lesnar is throwing short punches with fury. Ref breaks the two - apparently Lesnar loses a point for hitting Mir in the back of the head. No warning before the point deduction. Restart on the feet and Lesnar drops Mir with a big punch to the face. Lesnar goes berzerk on the ground with punches. Mir slaps on an armbar, but Lesnar escapes. Lesnar stands up and Mir grabs a leg and locks in a leg lock - Lesnar taps out!

Frank Mir def. Brock Lesnar via Submission (kneebar) at 1:30 of Round 1.

Doesn't sound all bad for Lesnar - at least he got some decent offence in against a guy who, by all accounts, is one of the better performers. I'd have thought building him up with some wins against less established guys would be better business.

Sounds like inexperience is what hurt Lesnar in the end. Even when not at his best Mir can lock on a submission from just about anywhere. A few tune up bouts might have been the better option for Lesnar, or more importantly, fights against someone who isn't well rounded in both stand up and submission.

this was a loss in the record books for brock but man he showed me that he is for real. Frank Mir is 255 pounds, yet lesnar took him down at will at the start and then just laid into him and then knocked him down. a rookie mistake cost him the fight. but man there is a LOT of potential in brock. when hes a little less green, he will be a force for sure. Mir beat brock the same way he beat Tank Abbott after his return from a pro wrestling stint in wcw.

was dissapointed with the main event as i am a sylvia fan. sylvia dominated the fight and then got caught. i knew as soon as minotauro got side control that sylvia was in deep sh*t. noguiera is that good on the ground.

i liked the rest of the card, was a fun PPV, looking forward to henderson/silva

For a guy in his second MMA fight, Lesnar was awesome. A guy like Mir is very well suited to a guy like Brock though, Brock's biggest weakness was his flailing limbs and Mir is basically a submission expert. Also Brock looks to put people on their back, but a guy like Mir is probably at his most dangerous on his back. It was basically a matter of whether Brock could knock out Mir before he could grab a hold of one of Brock's limbs. Turns out Mir can take one hell of a beating.

Brock's takedowns were awesome (as you'd expect from a wrestler of his calibre) he's explosive and he's VERY dedicated. If you guys want to see what sort of training the guy does then search the torrent sites for "UFC all access" and find the episode on Lesnar, it's a good watch. If you ask me the guy's got a bright future in MMA, he has so much potential and the work ethic to take him there.

This loss is just a minor set-back, I think he showed everyone he's for real.

Another thing I'd like to point out is that Mir seemed to be in pretty good condition. Since the motorcycle accident he's been flabby, lacked cardio and just seemed like his mind was on other things, but he seemed a lot better than in recent fights and it's great to see.

Also a great win for Big Nog! I'm not a Tim Sylvia hater or anything, but that was one awesome f**king fight.
