These packs show that in the modern era players are very similar in strength, size and the basic handling skills. There is no giant or wonderkind who can dominate his oponents with superior strength, size or skill.

They're isn't very much between the very best prop and the lesser lights, or the very best back rower and the worst. A pack only has to hold its own for their side to win - if they can do that the quality of their playmakers will decide if their side wins or loses.

The key player in these packs is the hooker. A creative and decent hooker is as important as your halfback/five-eighth or 'x factor' in the backline.

Tronc is rubbish, plain and simple. Phrases like 'workhorse' and 'very solid' are just flowery nonsense to describe a player that would struggle to make first grade at another club. And he's your starter!
You must have some sort of agenda against the Broncos, because Tronc is a very solid prop, who would start in most packs.

And for the Bryce Gibbs hate, here's some things that he provides:

He is on the field for most of the game. He is a good defender and he takes a fair bit of hitups. He makes metres. He is part of the reason that the Tigers defense was better this year. He cut out his dumb penalties almost entirely. He's a good prop.

And for the Tronc hate, I don't get it. I wouldn't mind having him at the Tigers, he is an above-average prop that gets through workload and makes metres. Nothing wrong with him. Not elite, but not many players are.

Pretty confident that the Raiders will have the best pack in the NRL in 2011. Happy to be proved otherwise....

Iteresting big pete u always put teo as starting 2nd row do u not rate gillett or glenn in front of teo? Both have started last two trials in 2nd row. Surely the coach would be looking to start gillett or glenn with thaiday. I think teo is better suited to have more impact from the bench.

More out of habit if anything.

Granted, I thought Te'o played better than Glenn and Gillett on the weekend.
