Brownlow Medal counts

I was just getting around to checking some of my Brownlow counts

Total player votes ought to equal games played * 6 ( or * 12 in 1976-77).

But for most years prior to 1978, I'm constantly getting discrepancies of 36 votes (or 72), exactly multiples of a six game round (as they were then).

Does anyone know why this might be happening? Votes weren't given in some rounds for some reason?

not really sure what your asking but there were a different number of teams in the competition back then

Ah, no answers there, but thanks for your efforts. I may have to ask on Bigfooty, but I'd prefer not.

It was because they didn't award votes in rounds that clashed with interstate games.
