Hunt is staying as confirmed by Flanagan today hence why sullovan is being shipped..Flaanagan Jnr looks like will roll in and talke Sullis role as a 14... ...We will also go hard for Luai for 6...wont get him but at least we will go for him to show intent in the market that we are looking for quaklity...i reckon Flanno is looking for a
2,3,6,9, 10 and 11...
Are they next weeks Powerball numbers?

I've been utterly mystified by this news since it was confirmed by Flanagan. A young gun halfback who starred at junior rep level, a local junior who seems a fabulous kid, still learning his trade as an NRL half and doing a pretty great job of it as an L plater. With Hunt being 32 (and not even wanting to be here) and Amone facing a a possible prison sentence it seems crazy to me to push Bud out the door.

If "3 into 2" won't go, as Flanno says, surely you let Hunt walk and bank on the kid? What's the rationale here. All I can think of is the following:

With Hunt gone, we'd have zero origin players, and zero Kangaroos. You don't make the finals let alone win comps with zero. When Bennett joined in 08 we had former origin/Australian reps Cooper, Hornby and even Sailor already on board and Wayne then added Darius, Costigan, Priddis, Fien and a current Kiwi in Jeremy Smith. These seasoned rep level players not only make the team more successful obviously, they also help attract others to the team. As poor as Hunt has been at halfback the last couple of years we're probably more likely to build on that rep player count if he sticks around - and Hunt himself will probably also improve under some decent coaching finally.

Having said all that.. I'd still find a way to keep Sullivan. ffs even the Sharks managed to keep an obvious NRL level halfback in Trindall behind Moylan and Hynes

You don't think it could be about Sullivan's manager constantly asking for a release and Flanagan has drawn a line in the sand?

Bud's contract ends 2025. So the release request has come from his side (usually manager - that's what they do) and the club has granted him permission to negotiate. The reason Flanno and club have decided to grant him permission to negotiate is obvious. Bud is injury prone and has spent too much time on sidelines recovering in the last 2 years. This might also be the reason why there is not much interest from other NRL clubs! I believe he will end up moving to super league where competition is less vigorous on the footsteps players like Brodie Croft (there was a rumour in offseason that we were after him) or Jai Field. There are not too many halves at the moment in the market so it looks like Hunt and Amone will be the clubs first choice. If Bud stays, he will be probably be used as 14 until his body is conditioned to First Grade NRL.

By the way, Bud is more exciting player than Amone in attack and when fit. I remember his last game was against raiders and we were on a roll and could get raiders. Then he got injured and left the field and we got beat.

I'd re-watch that game - Bud was ok but Amone was elite (playing on the right) I've switched camps as time has rolled on - to me Bud is a 6 in a 7's body

Imo Flanno is in a win now mode (for his contracted period). He probably wants to get a top 8 finish sooner rather than later then hopefully he's thinking of getting an extension where he has more time as a head coach to build a team for long term success.

This is where it's imperative for a good recruitment head to step in & think of the dragons long term future even while flanno is the head coach. That's what good clubs do with their strong recruitment department, they think of the long term future while understanding the coach is likely to be in a win now mode. I would hope if the Bud rumours are true then our recruitment team has also had a say in the decision, rather than it being left all to flanno.

I would punt hunt if I had the choice considering the crap he's put the club through due to his own actions. He's basically given up on the club. I get why Flanno is desperate for him to stay, as Hunt is his best shot at having immediate success but sometimes the long term future, club pride & integrity is more important.

If Amon can Continue to play like the last two games and avoid Jail, he could an exciting player to watch

What annoys me, we could have a lethal spine.
9.Hunt
7.Sulli
6.Amone
1.Lomax or Sloan.
But you have opposing haters or money hungry managers, from every angle, in a perfect scenario Hunt would never have done this if it wasn't for the opposing haters or managers, same for Sulli.
Its bizarre how quick the landscape changes so rapid.
Last Year Sulli wanted out, so too Sloan, but with a nice cuddle they stay
This year Ben Hunt wanted an immediate release during State of Oranges period. Flanno says No, you my main man and 7.
Now we face losing Sulli, the game has become worse than World Fake Wrestling!

Oi...don't you go about stealing my accusations/observations that the modern game is more like the WWE (as I have mentioned in many posts) under the watch of the greek and lebo currently running the game.

Nah just kidding...I'm glad it's just not me who sees it as plain as day, welcome aboard the WWE => NRL observations and accusations.

My kids used to love that WWE shit when it was on mainstream TV, they even begged me to buy them the PlayStation game but I couldn't stand it nor watch it even though I had to keep the peace with the Mrs.

I'm almost at that point with the NRL. Fully fabricated and premeditated akin to WWE for TV ratings and sponsorships.

Kind of like a build-up for the grand final all along.....Randy Savage V's Hulk Hogan (they're the only 2 I can remember from way back) for some bullshit title belt = the NRL will maneuver which teams will play in the finals and grand final to maximize the audiences on TV and grandstands.

The whole fiasco has become an ecosystem where player managers and a multitude of journos are all part of the take to make the game more appealing, controversial, and interesting to us poor suckers that long for what the game once stood for when I played.

For everyone that may know... out of curiosity?

Is that WWE shit still around in the US and is it as popular now that the newish MMA evolved into a powerhouse sport, which seems more real and professional and runs that way?

Or has WWE died a slow death like the NRL will inevitably once a proper competitive sport replaces it like the MMA has?

Lomax wasn't told he could look elsewhere and he never did also he is not on 800k and Bud is not on 500k
My understanding was that Lomax was told if he wanted to look else where for a deal he could.... BUT that we would not throw any money in to see him leave. Maybe Bud has been told the same... but Flan jnr does throw in a real curve ball...
As for signings I am happy to see Lomax playing as we all knew he could. Hunt does seem to be working as best he can and not kicking stones. Be interesting to see where he is in 9-12 months time...
I also believe I have seen little improvements in Sloan (slightly more committed in defence and therefore more confident); Suli (more involved in running ball off our line and cutting back against the grain in attack) and Amone (little stint out of team seems to have woke him up). I suspect that is more to do with Carr having an input on certain players. We were in a bit of a mess... but a few little steps forward before the end of the season would be nice. Toby Cuch and Dan Russell both look like triers and with an off season of bulk should progress nicely.

I’m guessing the manager won’t want a starting 7 for Bud if the money isn’t the same or better than under Saints.
This is a wait and see I think. I don’t want Bud to go but I’m over getting all het up about these things (well, I did get all get up over Hunt though).

As an aside, it bamboozles me why players just leave clubs because the manager says so. Surely they are there to advise, not to control, the player?
Something has dawned on me... if players have signed contracts and managers that they pay to advice them... why would they need to join a Union (RLPA). Personally I think it is time the NRL told the RLPA they have concerns about "forcing" players into an association. Maybe the NRL should give players the right to deal directly on a 1-on-1 level to work out their agreements with their employers (the clubs) and let the RLPA call for players to put their hand in their pockets to folk out a membership payment. I wonder what sort of coverage the RLPA would then hold. Just a thought?

I do not think Suli would be a big loss his work-rate would be less than half of Lomax and he sets up hardly any tries for his winger
