Gordan's a good back rower, he's available, he's cheap and we need backrowers. I'd rather spend a pittance on him now than wait and wait, just in case a better back rower comes on the market.

He's the sort of player that prosper's at the Panthers. Unwanted by his last club, desperate for an opportunity and playing for another contract.

I understand the need for extra players. What is ironic about some of these type of 'opportunity' signings is if they play pretty well or excellent they are gone to another club quick smart. If they are crap they tend to stick around.

Everyone should take a look at the Bulldogs signings. f**k how come they can do it and we can't?

Because we pay overs to ex Canberra hacks and won't spend big dollars to get an established quality player (Petero being the only exception).

Hes lazy and hes trouble, needs to sort himself out.

Developed his willie mason attitude at Souths because he partied with the bad doggies at the time.

He got into fights that went unreported. He had the tabs on himself. Child prodigy and all that.

Threatened to walk out on us so many times we lost count, so we gave him his wish and the grass wasnt greener afterall because the dogs released their bad boy nuffies. So the party kind of died.

A junior Peanuts with less than half the talent.

But I think Elliot could f**k with his head... and get him pumping.

He needs a king-size mental rodgering, some potential, yes, a small flicker left.

Hes troubled, but a lot of the good players are.

Id love to see him MOVE FORWARD with the Panthers, that would be good.

@the realist, seriously Sammut was a terrible nrl player. He tried his heart out every game but he was very selfish on the footy field, he would of cost us more games then he won.

Preston Campbell and Amos Roberts came to Panthers from the wilderness and revamped their careers.

Daine Laurie unfortunately has not.

Fingers crossed that Gordon can. I'm not sure if Elliott is the man to turn people's careers around. I'm yet to see anyone come on with leaps and bounds under his coaching. McKendry and Grant are front rowers and I would suggest that front rowers don't need as much coaching as halves, backs and back rowers. Fitness and attitude usually does the trick with front rowers.

Cannot agree with your assessment of Jarrod Sammut.

Sammut was going to be the ideal off the bench dummy half. The x factor. No one apparently at our club either in management or coaching staff could see it.

Sammut's utility value alone made him someone who we should absolutely have kept at the club.

For all the mongrel that Travis Burn's possesses and what he bring's to our side he possesses half the natural ability of Jammut Sammut.

Preston and Roberts played behind the best pack in the comp in 2003 and 2004.

Until the first semi final against the Raiders we had something similar happening this year but losing Waterhouse, Pritchard, Grant and then sustaining on field injuries against the Roosters was just plain cruel.

We freed up $170K to release Jarrod Sammut, may I suggest Dane Laurie is on the same money and we should be doing likewise.

Sammut... I liked him, could do some crazy stuff, but yeah. I'm in agreeance with betcats. I hope he continues to do well in the ESL though.

For the record if Buddy Gordon or Nigel Plum are viewed as our replacement's for Frank Pritchard then heaven help us.

Buddy Gordon perhaps as as bench player during the representative period or times when we have injuries otherwise we are in serious trouble in 2011.

I've already called it. We will give the wooden spoon a very big run next year, particularly if we lose Luke Lewis to a serious injury at some stage.

I agree with that, Sammut had plenty of talent, but he was too selfish, i can remember numerous times he cost us the ball or even cost us tries when he made selfish low percentage plays for himself, they brilliant when they come off, butt most of the time they dont, they just put the team in a bad position or cost us points.

i dont agree that sammut would of made a good bench hooker, especially if our half is Walsh, we couldnt afford to hide them both in the line for one thing.

But i agree he definately had that X factor about him but i think in the long run were better off without him.

Buddy has all the talent in the world but lacks belief and a little self discipline.

There were times this year when he look very good but he would then undo his good work with dropped balls etc.

I think he should have gone to Melbourne as I think Bellamy is the only bloke that could get the best out of him, with due respect to Elliott who is a good coach. Our coach is average and couldn't manage much improvement.

While I don't particularly rate Buddy Gordon, he is still young and considering our lack of viable options for depth in the back row well maybe we have no choice but to pursue him and eventually sign him. I am generally not prone to criticising our own players but Nigel Plum is not a starting back rower and if he is in 2011 then frankly we have no hope of making the top eight.
