It’s not a great stat club wise. I have been a little bit concerned I guess, more so than critical about Bula’s development but he is really starting to look pretty good, if he gets away from his tentative kick returns and looking to pass from the kick all the time he’s gonna be up there with the really competent fullbacks. There been a couple of returns in the last couple of weeks where he has been impressive but we need more than one or two a game from him. The only other thing I’d be looking at is straightening up his play in the opposition 20. He is very dangerous with the ball but on the right side he tends to drift a little bit too wide (not all the time and sometimes it does come off) which breaks down opportunities for the centre and winger in try scoring situations. He doesn’t seem to do it on the left. He is going well in a losing side.

Season done for Bula according to NRL Physio, going in for a shoulder reco.
When was that reported?
I have just posted the team up date ( came in at 2.23p) to play the bunnies and he is in the side?
If he’s carrying an injury I don’t see the point of playing him.

Got the members first email Tm and it announced he's out fot the rest of the year with shoulder surgery.

Agree, I think he will be an important cog for our season.
I was a bit critical of Bula dropping off in cover defense which he was awesome at doing in earlier games after debut...we were raving about how committed he was, sprinting across the field to the stop the opposing winger from scoring in the corner.
In the later rounds he was carrying that shoulder injury so that accounts for him dropping off in D.
If he returns fully fit, look out!

I’m not convinced about Bula.Needs to up his involvement & level of intensity.Glad he has enormous pressure to perform due to the arrival of Turuva.
He fell off half way through the season especially in D but as I said earlier he was probably carrying that shoulder injury that needed surgery.
I think he'll get even better with more experience.
It's just a shame Ted that he's missing a bit of preseason training with the squad. It's more fitness stuff atm so hopefully he'll be right for all the team runs and getting the spine/combos right in the new year.

.. Bulla needs to grow some balls. It’s not the side on engagement from Bulla that’s the worry it’s the front on… He’s got a bit of AD about him there
Added to that when he collects the ball in the backline, you can see his only thought is that he’s the star, so he’s going to run through the opposition and score. It’s the transition to “oh hang on I can’t do that I need to pass the ball”, where he comes unstuck..That’s because he considers the passing option way too late, so there’s nothing more than a feeble pass that at times is lucky to hit the mark, with no strategy behind it and the guy receiving the ball has no where to go.
That’s 2 too many weaknesses for an nrl fullback

WTF are we doing with these contracts ffs.

I just posted that this contract is significantly better than the Luai contract. He can exercise the option and get 800k whereas if we exercise it he gets 900k. Personally I'd prefer the lower figure to be something like 500k but that is how it goes.

Luai's contract (post the first 2 years) isn't really a contract. It's an option and the only beneficiary is Luai. There is no benefit to us for those last 3 years. None. If he is injured and no one wants him he collects the 1.2 million.

I don’t mind these type of contracts for a lot of players, just not for the better ones.
I guess it can go pear shaped but how do you plan for the future, with this type if uncertainty.

Or, we could lose him.

If this is true, I guess it’s fair enough, if he deserves it, he stays, if he doesn’t then he has the opportunity to go.
I think he’d stay anyway.
