THE BULLDOGS have started planning for life after Jamal Idris by circling off-contract centres Chris Lawrence and Shaun Kenny-Dowall. The Sunday Telegraph can reveal that the Canterbury Bulldogs have sounded out Lawrence and will make a $350,000 play for the Test centre should Idris take up a $1 million offer to join the Nathan Tinkler-backed Knights.

The Belmore-based club has also expressed interest in Kenny-Dowall, who has five clubs trying to snatch him away from the Roosters.

With the season kick-off just 12 days away, the game's hottest off-contract players are worth a combined $4.5 million.

Can we hurry the f**k up and sign him already?????

I think the other club that may make a play for Lawrence would be Broncos Heaps of money left on cap . Doubt they would be successful but they will have cash and sometimes money talks

He will only go to the dogs if Sheens goes.....even then it wouldn't be a given- Buffalo is spot on- surely we will match anything close to 400k

We should throw a 2mill contract over 5 years at him.

he deserves it and is worth it.

I don't know what the Tigers current expenditure is, perhaps someone else could post this amount. What I do know is no money was spent this year on new (dare I say) marquee players, in point of fact some was returned (however small it was) with the retirement of Taniela and Cayless.

The retirement of Cayless and Taniela means there is space in our top 25 and I am fearful money may be getting put away for a gun forward, maybe James Graham. Royce might put in a good word for the club.

I think however good Graham is, or anyone else maybe to the Tigers, the primary goal should be to get Lawrence locked up immediately. He is now an international and deserves to be paid as one. He is now considered our marquee signing as far as I am concerned.

My fear is, however loyal Lawrence might be to the Tigers, people like Tinkler for the Knights, Rusty from Souffs and Politis from the Roosters, they can be very convincing and Lawrence is still young enough to be influenced by these people.

I for one will not doubt his loyalty to the Tigers...but it wasn't that long ago the Dogs were going on about the loyalty of Idris et al and he is now being courted by other clubs..money talks very loudly!!!

Just get him signed...

Non monetary reasons for remaining at the Tigers

1. Sheens
2. Local junior
3. Playing outside of Farah, Lui and Marshal with Moltzen and Miller in the wings.
4. Culture of the club

The good ball Lawrence receives is due in part to the forwards but the vision and skill of the halves.

I'm sure these are strong reasons to stay.

Big issue is we will have so many contract upgrades in the near future with all the young talent we have And unfortunately more tham likely we will lose some of that talent due to salary cap restraints Its just the nature of the beast i would imagine we would be on the very edge of using full salary cap already (Not including Cayless or Taniela ) Pretty sure we will keep Lawrence but some others I don't know Maybe some of the older players might have to be left go And as much as I admire him as a player Todd Payten might be one of those players

If we get lucky and keep all the good juniors until after the 2012 season then hopefully the NRL will get a massive TV deal and increases the salary cap which we can then use to keep all the juniors.

Here hoping anyway :D
