Funny thing is... he's actually kind of right (this time). Just taking the conclusion waaaaaaaay too far.
WHO might not be calling it a pandemic yet, but it fits the criteria already.
For healthy adults (below 70 and no comorbidities - particularly respiratory or cardiovascular issues) it has a minuscule fatality rate. Still worse than the seasonal flu, but... yeah. Not a stunningly deadly disease - which is also why the thing keeps spreading, the lower fatality rate + longer incubation period = much harder to control.
Keeping a couple of weeks worth of non perishables and household necessities is probably a good idea... anything more is just being silly (and that's just for your own needs if you get sick and need to self-quarantine). Live your lives, wash your hands more and try to touch things less (including your face and other people's hands). NRL is not being cancelled. Olympics might, though - those are very different propositions.
