Bumstead dropped for Origin 3!

REFEREE Paul Simpkins will make his State of Origin debut in the third and deciding game of this year's series in Sydney tomorrow week.

Simpkins was today given the job for Origin III in place of Sean Hampstead.

Hampstead controlled the opening two Origin games but his involvement this time will be restricted to the video booth.

He was heavily criticised by Phil Gould after Origin II, the NSW coach saying he wanted to keep the whistleblower "as far away as possible" from Origin III.

Gould also said Hampstead had "had his turn" at the inter-state series.

Simpkins has refereed 198 club matches, two Tests and two City-Country games.

Touch judges will be Steve Carroll and Steve Chiddy.

The video referees will be Graeme West and Hampstead.

Tim Mander will be the standby referee.

I'll try and make it to that level, but it may take me some time seeing as last week the highest game I did was U8's Greystanes Vs Toongabbie (good game though)

Theres too much bloody politics involved when it comes to selecting referee's for rep matches. It's quite obvious to all that Mander is the number 1 ref in the game.

I disagree. I think that there are 3 or 4 who when in there best form are very close at the top.

How long is the game going to go for now? The first half on the weekend took 57 minutes of actual time because Simpkins never had the guts to make the call as he saw it.
