On a couple of other notes - why is when souff$ get a penalty the mark was given 10m in advance of where the infrigement occured - on at least 3 occassions and Im pretty sure not for inside the the 10 ? Did any one else notice that?

BTW - Souths were never inside the 10m for the WHOLE GAME . My goodness they are a super team. And at our home game too. Remarkable!!!

Karma.
All the toys get thrown out of the pram when YOU lot get penalised again and again leading to tries that put the game beyond you.
Yet when you win games by continual penalties, it's different . You suddenly find your mojo, and are an attacking superforce.
Karma. Enjoy the misery.

Have you even seen Souths win a premiership? I mean, are you old enough?

Penalty count is killing teams. Then you have the video ref looking for any excuse to give a knock-on a try.
Bad luck Dragons, the refs have got you cold just like the warriors had 40 tackles before they even knew what a ball looked like.
It's killing the game, you walk away when the penalty count hits 4 or 5, but 7 to 1.

I am more interested in viewing figures, it has got to the stage where i am turning the TV off because refs and video refs are ruining the contest.
Walk away boys, Bunnies time to win tonight, the refs have spoken.

Couldn't have summed it up better myself.

"It's killing the game" ......and the NRL are scratching their heads why record low crowds and average tv ratings.

It's getting boring

I agree that penalties ruin the contest, but blaming referees and penalties for our performance tonight is a bit of a stretch. The Roosters conceded the most penalties of any team last year yet conceded the fewest points in defence. Good teams that deserve to win don't defend their line the way St George did tonight! Mitch Rein is a reserve grade footballer!

Tonight nothing was going our way... This happens. But I seriously worry about our dummy half and ruck play. I really don't believe rein is the man. He's good 3 meters from the like, but when trying to get the team on front foot he's hopeless. Hardly any dummy half scoots. Just picks ball up and passes. Every single time

Agreed so are many of this price hand picked team.

Must be watching another debelin, can make a good hit
or 2 but that's it his carries r soft.

Our centres lack punch ! Matautai a chance I think.

Witt hooker, Williams half...and see what the bench offers.

They were getting worked up about the penalties - pretty much the whole conference was about the penalty count

It's a great interview - Thanks Steve, thanks Ben !

It's real. It's open. It's honest. It's gonna cost $10grand but it is finally a shot in anger for our club. We are always so soft when representing our club to the NRL, but this is better.

The refereeing was terrible tonight.

Why... do referees simply call out an indescretion and other times same circumstances they blow the whistle? And then the obvious square up at the back end of the game when the result is gone anyway - I hate that.

As has been posted elsewhere, the effects of penalties and the inconsistencies in awarding them is a serious blot on the game and what really frustrates fans.

Maybe that IS what is affecting crowd attendences, not the number of bowls in the female toilets and the legroom in the stands.

Get real NRL

Does anyone have stats on tackle count, I'm sure we must have done 100 extra tackles, that and the ridiculous penalty count, with silly errors thrown in for good measure meant we worked ourselves into the ground...
Btw I'm really wondering about Farrell, I'm convinced he is a double agent....

Our defence was obviously poor, but some notes about our attack:

- We are kick happy. As soon as space is created on an edge, it's the go-to play for some reason. We have two of the best wingers in the comp, makes sense to just give them the ball one on one.

- Rein had a poor game, his service is just too slow. That stutter he does means by the time a forward gets the ball, he's bracing for contact. When he's feeding Widdop, it just cuts his time in half. Rein needs to either dart or pass, he's continually trying to do both.

- I don't recall one set play. Maybe it was down to lack of possession and territory, but we threw nothing at them when given an opportunity. Forwards taking one out hitups on the third and fourth tackle 10 metres out isn't enough against the good teams.

- Stanley baffles me. He just looks so off the pace. Common sense has to prevail with either Quinlan or Garvey filling that bench utility role.

- Dugan looked good, first game back. Had some strong carries. Give it a few weeks and he'll win games for us.

Oh dear how bad was that. Don't blame the refs, the team played poorly. Discipline is shocking and for Quinlan to get the blame that is poor. He didn't give away penalties. Give the kid a break.

Agree with most of what you said . The sad thing though is your post could have also been true for 2012 and 2013 seasons... Price truly clueless....

...yeah you/re right. Like I said - I was being harsh. I guess not seeing Joshua put on one of his usual breaks has tainted my view of his game tonight.

I just hated watching the game tonight. It gave me the shits, I could not help being pissed off that it was not being played at Kogarah. It felt like their home game - not ours.

Yep definitely did feel like their home game, which absolutely sucks because suburban home grounds make it so difficult for their opponents no matter who it is. MOL heritage round - why can't it be played at kogarah!!! Tigers are at leichardt tomorrow rather than ANZ, the roosters got Allianz rather than ANZ- we must have concurred with the NRL to play there.

Just a few humble observations from
tonight's game
• kudos to Dugan and merrin. Whole hearted effort whole game

•Quinlan offered nothing

•We couldn't buy a penalty

•Souths steamrolled us each set of six

•this game was a true indication of where we stand in the comp

You're right about thr service from dummy half. I hate watching us make a 3 meter run for each tackle while they make 15+. Penalty count was BS but they had us in the forwards plain and simple. Unfortunately I think in this case the size of their whole team is a rock beats scissors scenario. Penalties aside we were never getting out of our half and our backs when they got the ball they were just running at a wall anyway. Kicking may have been the answer but like other I just felt we'd lost this from the start whistle
