If gay people are no different to any other people (according to Holmes A Cort) why is a special invitation needed to get them to come to league matches? If they were interested they would be there already. If I were a gay souths fan id be more insulted to be singled out as one and told i was "welcomed" by souths. Its not as if souths are just removing the "no gays allowed" sign from the front gate.

next week we'll hear of Holms A Cort reaching out to left handed people to join the club because they will be accepted there.
It's important to welcome a community if it feels excluded in a cultural sense, and let's be fair, the football culture tends to be quite macho. Mind you, I'll be really surprised to see extroverted, gay Rabbitohs supporters brave a trip to Townsville :D

Ian Roberts originally played for the Bunnies then later went to Townsville to play for the Cowboys, quite liked it up there, had no problems. Mind you, you'd have to be as thick as 10 planks to query his preferences to his face.

Got no dramas with Souths publicly welcoming a gay fan base, good on em for showing a bit of initiative - something they have been missing for way too long.

Gay or straight, Ian Roberts is an icon, respected and treasured all around Australia and the league world.

Exactly! AFL clubs were doing similar initiatives years and years ago.

The more people that follow Souths, and thus League in general, is a good thing.

ffs its already known you have the biggest supporter base, your club has gone from battlers to corporate whores. You just have to look at your owners, f**king big ego corporates who wanna rule the world.

Did somebody go and ASK the gay community if it felt excluded?? I doubt it.

As for the football culture tending to be quite macho, of course it is, football is a macho sport, the two go hand in hand (so to speak :sarcasm: )

Is it true that around 84% of those Nrl calenders were sold to gays!

And how would someone come up with a statistic like that?

"oh excuse me sir, before i sell you this calender i must ask you to fill out this "Sexual Preferences and reasons for buying this callender" questionnaire"

If this is the world, then I'll let Phac and Rusty take it over any day.

BTW Stuart is trying to bring a corporate culture to the sharks.

No cashish, no NRL.

I'll gladly lend Mr Humphries my flag to wave if he is so desirous, it doesnt mean I have eyes for his airline friend.
