Burt and Reddy

Loyalty has a small place in the modern game , and both these players have been good servents of the club. They also are not of 1st grade standard. A lot of fans on here won't admit it (particularly in relation to Burt) but he just is not of 1st grade standard anymore. All 17 players on the field have a job to do . The back 3 set the platform for the set. We have useless wingers who give the ball to Hayne and use him as a battering ram.

Reddy: average attacking centre, below average defender. He really doesn't offer a lot.

Its time for the club to make hard decisions even in relation to some of our more popular players as a clean out is needed now while we're rebuilding. We have some young kids who will take time to develop but are they really learning alot from the likes of Burt and Reddy on the field other than a culture of accepting mediocrity as long as you bail us out from time to time with goal kicking or a smart play? Offer Burt a goal kicking job or something if you must.

Your opinion is your opinion and that's all.

Personally I think both Burt and Reddy are still first grade quality.

In fact I think Burt has been terrific for us so far this year especially the past two weeks after being moved to fullback. Reddy had a bad game today but is still a quality first grader.

So you've the right to your opinion but it isn't fact so no need to start a thread telling people what other people should think.

You're the one in denial thinking your opinion counts above others.

Settle down bro! Thats the exact attitude that holds this club back. Would either of these 2 make any other team? Let alone be permanent fixtures.

I belive they would yes. Why not have a go at Loko, Morgan, Atkins, Etu, who definately shouldn't be in first grade?

Reddy had a shocker but he is a much better player than that. If fit with clean bill of health and played crap 4 weeks straight, I would agree that he is no longer an NRL 1st grader. He generally plays well most weeks of a season, played well last week, but he is known to have the odd shocker every year. Have confidence he will improve against Cowboys in a fortnight as will Burty.

Luke Burt played ok today, was man of the match last week against Titans. The backs around him let Burty down a few times today, communication from Robson & Mortimer was poor. From the back Burty was trying to do 4 jobs at once which had him caught out not playing his Full Back game well today.

Our major issues are the wingers, five eighth, half back and grooming an 18 year old center through such a massive learning experience in preparation for next year. All forwards played well today but our backrowers don't have sufficient thrust to bust the line open, they are a bit slow. We need to rethink Smith, Hindy, Shack & Horo all playing together. Horo has the most speed but does not have the ferocity of Shack and Shack does not presently have Horo's speed. This is of great concern too.

im not looking forward waiting another 2 years of building our team , i sat in front of my tv today knowing we will get lapped, i wonder how the players really felt before they ran out .

i really think kearny is just telling it how it is, people have to except the fact that this side isnt going to go very well this year and let the coach lead us into the future .

so much speculation , let him do his job , also remember in 2 years some of our players will have retired. burt, hindy and maybe fui .

Two years is a long time in the salary cap era. You can spend 2 to 3 years years building a side only to let it get torn apart in one side. Something Kearney has to understand because quite simply though he had no involvement the entire time he was at the Storm they rorted the cap and he avoided that problem. He cannot avoid it now.

Reddy is a solid first grader who can have a few ordinary games. He's replacable but not by anyone we have at the moment.

Burt is better on the wing IMO but is still very valuable to our side. He's gotten better as he's gotten older

Agreed.

They're both first graders but Burt's defence has never been first grade standard - he really let us down at fullback today.

Disagree.

Loko and Morgan aren't first graders yet but they will be which is why they've been given first grade footy this year. Atkins and Etu are both only just first graders but first graders they are.

In my opinion of course.

That's why you have to aim for constant renewal of your squad. I don't think Kearney's just trying to build a squad and leave it at that - he's trying to build a club so that we can always replace the blokes the salary cap takes away.

If you and I are aware of the need for this then it's pretty insulting for you to assume that Kearney doesn't.

Reddy is better than that, he has to be other wise he'd never be picked again,

watching Cooper stroll past him was embarrassing

Bit hard on Atkins , thought he has done Ok , Etu on the other hand....

Burt plays above his weight so to speak, and Reddy is getting found out this year, the halves are atrocious and it is highglighted when the forwards hold their own and make yards and we fail miserably when it gets to them.

Yesterday the Dragqueens stopped going up the middle and attacked at the fringes, the rest is history

The OP makes a good point, while i think both of these guys are solid first graders would they really be in hot demand by other clubs???? We tend to overate our players, B Smith is another one and as was Cayless for quite a bit of his time here. Kearney can see what needs to be done, hopefully he is ruthless and shows no loyalty Brain Smith style.

They showed us how to work a team over. Notice the ball movement, players in motion, sweeping plays across the field in possession and the offloads.

Then notice how we looked tired and holes were appearing everywhere. And yet we continue to hit it up the middle.

Not quite sure how Burt can go from hero to villain in the space of a week. He is smart and experienced, and he's very useful out on the wing.

Burt's defence has been sub-par three weeks in a row.

I donlt think he'd play first grade in many other sides.

In our he is one of the first chosen becuase we have completely neglected the importance of outside backs in the modern game.

If we really do have a policy of not paying wingers more than 200K it MUST end.

Precisely he is a very useful winger but below average fullback. Kinda makes the continuing idea of moving to Hayne a bit more ridiculous.
