well actually i think there's been a heap of discussion that if Hayne played fullback over Burt it would go a long way to making us win .... heaps of posts about getting us on the front foot from the kick return rather than having to start the set going backwards - I think the posters think that was a massive thing for the team - saviour??? hmmm maybe not - but maybe Moses leading the way! .... ppl have pretty strong views on it!
Thanks Strider. It's the depth of feeling about the Hayne switch in recent weeks that I was referring to. It was pretty strong stuff from some people, whether people share the same levels of opinion or for whatever reason want to remember it or not.
maybe its right??? .... tbh I would prefer jarryd to stay fullback after last week - I thought he was one of our best players .... mind you wanted to be after the bit of sooking he'd done
The only reason why Hagan should stop giving Hayne a go at fullback (after making teh change in the first place) is if it was only ever a temporary cover situation, given the report that has come out that Burt's absence last weekend after originally being named in the team was owing to personal situation.
That's what I'm saying. My reading of the articles this week (and now last week's in retrospect) suggest that might be the case, so we shoudl be prepared for Burt to be in the #1, whether we like it or lump it. We might have to accept the carry-on here about Burt being dropped on form was never something Hagan actually did or said?
the way I see it - kick returns are NOT JUST THE FULLBACK - wingers probably get just as many kick returns these days .... infact I'd be interested to see a stat of total kick returns to compare how many Burt has to our wingers ..... and in all honesty Jarryd's kick returns aginst the Bunnies, the week before his fullback promotion, were abysmal!!! Good point about wingers having the chance to influence a game as much as a fullback, in terms of kick returns. But it seems we have a situation where jarryd has publically put pressure on his coach by requesting a shift from the wing, and now Reddy appears to be shifted out, to allow Hayne back into the centres - a position from which he was "dropped"?
It all seems like very bizarre coaching, reactionary rather than having any plan... and I'm not holding too much hope for tomorrow night! (Better to expect little and be pleasantly surprised...)
