A MAN was killed and seven others seriously injured after a mini-bus carrying members of Brisbane rock band Butterfingers crashed on the north coast today.
The van rolled several times and slammed into a tree after veering off the Pacific Highway at Moonee, north of Coffs Harbour, about 7am.
Police said one man was killed on impact, while a 30-year-old passengers was trapped in the wreckage for more than an hour, before being taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a critical condition.
Five others escaped with head injuries, cuts and fractures and were also taken to Coffs Harbour in a stable condition.
It was not known whether the dead man was a band member.
Police said the crash, at Cunninghams Bridge, 1km north of Coffs Harbour, had shut the Pacific Hwy to northbound traffic.
The crash occured at the end of an overtaking lane, with the van drifting off the road.
"It has left the road and rolled a couple of times before it has struck a tree," a police spokesman said.
Police said the eight occupants of the mini-van, which was towing a trailer, were travelling south when the crash occured.
The independent Brisbane band, best known for its popular hip-hop tune FIGJAM, was founded by lead singer "Evil" Eddie Jacobson in 2003.
Other members are Olly Thomas (Percussion, Samples, Vocals), Dave Crane (Bass, Vocals), Damien Green (Drums, Vocals).

Bloody hell. Hope all is well for the survivors.

Oh and as an aside, and probably not the best time to rant about it, but the tags journos give music is ridiculous. First they call them a rock band, and then say they're best know for hip-hop.

Two men killed, six injured in mini-bus crash
Vehicle was linked to US metal band on tour
Not known if deceased were band members

TWO men have died after a mini-bus believed to be carrying members of Melbourne band The Red Shore crashed on the north coast of New South Wales today.

The Australian band were on tour with US metal band All Shall Perish, who performed in Brisbane last night and were due to play in Sydney tonight.

The van rolled several times and slammed into a tree after veering off the Pacific Highway at Moonee, north of Coffs Harbour, at about 7am (AEDT) this morning.

Police said one man was killed on impact and another 30-year-old passenger was trapped in the wreckage for more than an hour before dying in hospital.

Six others escaped with head injuries, cuts and fractures and were taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a stable condition.

There were conflicting reports about the identity of the van's occupants, with early reports claiming that Brisbane band Butterfingers were involved in the accident.

A later report claimed members of touring band All Shall Perish had been involved.

A spokesperson for touring agency Destroy All Lines confirmed that a vehicle used for the All Shall Perish tour had crashed, but said it was not carrying the US band.

There has been no confirmation of the identity of the two deceased men.

Police said the crash, at Cunninghams Bridge, 1km north of Coffs Harbour, had shut the Pacific Highway to northbound traffic.

The crash occured at the end of an overtaking lane, with the van drifting off the road.

"It has left the road and rolled a couple of times before it has struck a tree," a police spokesman said.

Police said the eight occupants of the mini-van, which was towing a trailer, were travelling south when the crash occured.

Destroy All Lines plan to release more information about the crash this afternoon.

The Red Shore are a five-piece death metal band from Melbourne. They performed with All Shall Perish at Club Phoenix in Brisbane last night and were scheduled to play at Hermann's Bar at the University of Sydney tonight.

And now they have no idea.

Two dead and six injured in bus crash
Wednesday Dec 19 11:47 AEDT

A minibus crash has claimed the lives of two men on the Pacific Highway on the NSW north coast today.

One man died at the scene of the crash after the minibus veered off the road, plunged down an embankment and rolled into a tree near Moonee Beach about 7am.

Conflicting reports have linked Californian heavy metal band All Shall Perish and Melbourne band The Red Shore to the crash, however these claims have not been confirmed.

Initial reports suggested Brisbane band Butterfingers was involved, but this has been proven incorrect.

Butterfingers bassist and manager Dave Crane said he was baffled by initial reports about the accident.

"It's completely wrong.

"Some idiot from the Daily Telegraph's just posted it on the internet," he said.

"We're all alive and well."

Crane said he heard some markings on the van or music equipment may have linked Butterfingers to the accident.

Seven others were injured in the crash, north of Coffs Harbour, with a 30-year-old man trapped in the wreckage for an hour.

He was rushed to nearby Coffs Harbour Hospital with serious head injuries, but later died, the Ambulance Service of NSW said.

The six other passengers, all men in their 20s, were also taken to Coffs Harbour Hospital, where they were in stable conditions.

"The 30-year-old male who was taken to Coffs Harbour with critical head injuries has since died," the ambulance spokeswoman said.

"The six other patients are all stable with fairly minor injuries."

it's been "confirmed" that the mini-bus was a tour bus for All Shall Perish but it did not contain those band members

from reports it seems that they probably haven't been able to contact the family members of The Red Shore so can not release the details yet

tragic news anyway

and tragic journalism too
