I'm surprised Panesar wasn't introduced as a 'curry muncher' or 'taxi driver' which were common terms for Indians & Pakistanis that I frequently heard being used there.

It's nothing compared to their attitude towards the aboriginal people.

He specifically joked about his race. He saw his opportunity for comedy to poke fun at him because he was Indian. He didn't make fun of him because he was bowling spin.

I'd agree douchebag rather than necessarily racist. Just a stupid thing to do, especially in a town that sounds like it is has it's share of racial tensions.

and you seeing no problem with that at all is a little concerning.

Do you not realise that the Indian accent used by some Australians may actually be seen as derogatory to people of Indian heritage.

It is mocking their speech, which is condescending, which can quite easily be seen as a form of racism.

It's wildly inappropriate.

Well if you are making an alternate argument, it would be if Indians mocked an Australians attempt to speak Indian (not Indian English).

Racism definition doesn't change depending on who said it.

Not sure what point you are trying to make. There's no mention of Indian's mocking Australian's in the story.
