No need to agree, it was merely my opinion. Rein was relegated to ISP when he went to the Panthers (Shit did I say the Panthers word) Damn. Anyways he was named ISP player of the year. Brennan took him to the Titans as we all know. Love Benji but concede he's way past his best. More likely to meet FF in the mental facility than in the halves, not that there's anything wrong with that ;)
Yes you mentioned that 8 letter word....who knows you might get a room together yet!

Go easy on him Drag Queen, when you are regularly making in excess of 50 effective tackles on forwards with 20+ kilos on you, it limits what you can do in attack. I want the forwards to step up and take some of the defensive pressure off him. We have some good defenders in the forwards but in my opinion they go missing at times and leave it to McInness to carry the load.

He has shown at times he has something to contribute in attack but I believe he is being unfairly restricted in this area.
Completely agree. Poor bugger has had to defend far more than warranted. I don't have a personal beef against him. I just disagree that he is an upgrade on Rein. Anyway that's all history now Carlton.

If McInnes is doing more than his fair share in defence - 50 tackles, who is letting the team down in the middle then?

Fair enough, thats your view of Rein v McInness and you obviously have your reasons.

To be honest, I think, at times (not always) they are all guilty of standing back and letting McInness make tackles first up. This could come back to poor use of the bench and playing tired players.

Hi guys,
I live in a small town on the Sunshine Coast. I was going to work early one morning in October and noticed a fit looking dude going for a run. He looked really familiar it was then I realised it as Cam McInnes. My son was at the skate park in the afternoon and mentioned he saw him running past.
2 things I love about this, 1 I got to see a dragons player in real life. 2 he’s serious about his fitness before pre-season training. Here’s to next season!!!

I watched Robson run around in reserves today and wasn't that impressed. His defence was OK but he didn't create anything and when he ran from dummy half and got his head through the line he had a player backing up either side but ignored them and took the tackle - a pass to either could have resulted in a try. I had a look at his stats for the first three games this year and the only stat that stood out were his missed tackles, a few today, 8 last week, 5 the week before and that's reserve grade. His play the balls are slow compared to Cam who's one of our quickest and he doesn't kick at all. Why the hype ?
His stats for tries, try assists and line break assists are the same as Cams at this stage. Cam makes more metres out of dummy half. I'm not seeing anything that would justify replacing a very experienced 1st grade Hooker who has built up a good combination with his forwards and halfback and whose excellent defence is invaluable right now with JDB and Ah Mau gone. Plus he has another gear some weeks that I haven't seen from Robson.
Cam's a terrific little player and getting better as he goes and he's only 25.

McInnes would go even better, experience less fatigue and become even more valuable in a hooker rotation with Robson.

McInnes is the best defensive player we have. Other than Debellin he also hits harder than any other player we have.
If he runs like he did against the Broncos he could be our most valuable player.

Well, I don’t know about the “most valuable player” part (which, traditionally, is reserved for the halfback) but I get your point.

McInnes simply needs to run more and reduce his propensity towards the blind side most plays....then he could be much better....as we saw on Thursday night.

His try was Rein-esque.

McInnes is likely run even more if he is not put under such levels of fatigue each game. A McInnes Robson rotation is absolutely the way to go.

Agree... He is very complete 9. Defensively outstanding, can play the full 80 as we know, and given some freedom to play what's in front of him, can be a real danger. Certainly one of of our important players going forward.

Yes he Cam: McInnes ready to step into leadership void for Dragons

He led the Junior Kangaroos and was identified as a future captain by his former club, South Sydney. Now Cameron McInnes is firming to become the new skipper of the injury-hit Dragons.

As Dragons officials and players brace for Gareth Widdop being ruled out for the rest of the season with a shoulder injury – scans are expected to confirm the worst on Monday – and with Tyson Frizell unlikely to return for at least another week after having an operation on a lacerated testicle, McInnes appears set to be given the top honour.

Frizell, Widdop, McInnes and James Graham are all part of the Dragons' leadership group. Graham has captained Canterbury, St George Illawarra and England, but plays about 55 minutes in the front row. McInnes punches out 80 minutes, was impressive at dummy-half against the Broncos and has already displayed impressive leadership qualities early in the campaign.

Coach Paul McGregor has been occupied with the shocking injury suffered by Widdop and whether the Englishman will play for the club again before he returns to the Super League at the end of the year. But he has a healthy respect for McInnes, the 24-year-old son of a school principal who has already co-captained the Dragons with Frizell and is locked up long term at the club.

McInnes said he would welcome the extra responsibility, saying: "If I’m made the captain that’s great. Obviously 'Jamma' [James Graham] being the person he is, he inspires all of us, so regardless of who has the 'c' next to their name, Jamma is such a great leader of our team, and my job is to lead by my actions.

"It’s a great honour. Any NRL club it is a great honour to be captain of, but especially a club with a rich of history like St George. I would be very humbled and honoured to get that.

"I was a captain coming through. It’s a role I’ve been comfortable with. I’m quite vocal. If I get that role, I’ll be comfortable with it. If not, nothing really changes."

Kelly Egan was coach of the Junior Kangaroos in 2014 in a side that featured Valentine Holmes, Clint Gutherson, Jack Bird, Ryan Matterson, Matt Lodge, Tevita Pangai jnr and Cameron Munster, but happily embraced McInnes as captain.

"He does all the 1 per centers and all the little things you want people to do well – he does them,'' Egan said.

"I'm not 'Mary' [McGregor], but given what's available down there, it would be a good appointment for them to move forward with. There's no reason Cam couldn't captain there for years. We had a good team, but he was a standout from a leadership perspective."

Widdop flew back to Sydney on Friday afternoon with his right arm in a sling. He dislocated his shoulder late in the game against the Broncos the night before, which was the third time he had suffered the injury in his past five NRL games.

The feeling within the Dragons camp is not good. Frizell's eye-watering injury ruled him out of rounds two and three, and is expected to also ground him for the trek up the M1 Motorway to Newcastle. The Bulldogs in round five is more likely.

The tough opening-round road trip to Townsville followed by two Thursday-night games has given McGregor limited time to prepare his players, which only adds merit to their shock 25-24 win at Suncorp.

Matt Dufty will slot into fullback now Widdop will be out of action.

To saddle such responsibility on one player is very risky. What if he becomes injured, unavailable due to rep duties or simply leaves for what ever reason.

A better option would be to bring Robson through and have a hooker/backrow rotation.
