Can Reynolds go the whole year without running the ball?

With the forward pack we have, the 9 we have and the 1 we have we need from him exactly what we get.

And for everyone shitting on him, we went to pieces in the prelim when he went out. His role is "simple" according to some people but it is crucial and irreplaceable.

He has been coached into a specific role because that is what this team needs from him. He might not go as well in another team but that's convenient because he doesn't play for another team.

Usual idiots are being blinded by their jealousy of Souths in their assessment of Reynolds tonight. I thought he ran it a lot more than normal, particularly in the attacking 20. He set up 4 repeat sets single-handedly and easily won out over Pearce.

It doesnt seem he has to be a ball runner to be good in the souths system. Sutton takes the line on plenty, they've got the burgess boys and Inglis basically acts as a 2nd 5/8th in attack. So whilst he's not a threatening ball runner, Souths have got enough weapons that he probably doesnt have to be. He can just focus on ball distribution, strong kicking game and aiming up defensively

if he wants to play rep footy, he'll need to develop a running game though

Luke, Sutton and Inglis are all playmakers whose strength is their running game. It doesn't need to be the basis of Reynolds game. That said I hope he does start to run a bit just to reduce predictability

I tend to agree that based on last season Reynolds game is fairly one dimensional - happy to be proven wrong, but didn't he only have a handful of line breaks and perhaps 1 or 2 line break assists last season?

But as already pointed out, it doesn't seem to matter. Issac Luke and Inglis provide the ball work, Sutton chimes in. Reynolds kicking game has proven to be nothing short of razor sharp. Souths score plenty of tries from his kicks, and he consistently forces repeats. You can only hold out Inglis and his capabilities on your own try line for so long.

He will need a running game if Sutton and or inglis is ever out - this is very his lack of a running game will be evidence.

But he currently plays his role in the side brilliantly , his kicking game is pretty bloody good.

He is tough little bugger, that was a fairly nasty gash.

I reckon he did well to keep on playing to be honest.

If you think people are jealous, you are clearly deluded. Souffs played well and Reynolds had a good game (after his first kick). Pearce is a mediocre halfback so if you're using him as a barometer of quality then you'd be disappointed if your halfback was at the same level.

As for the 4 repeat sets, I couldn't believe the one that was checked by the video ref didn't end up as a penalty to the Roosters for a player 5m in front of the kick making a play at the ball (the only reason the ball had to be forced out).

Anyone ragging on Reynolds game is a moron.

Does what the coach wants him too and does it as good as 95% of halfbacks in the game.

And that is exactly my point.

He obviously fits into souths system well but all this 'origin' talk is complete rubbish. He is his teams 7 but isnt even a play maker. Like soward before him who had Boyd, he has inglis to do everything that a traditional half would do. As soon as Boyd left the dragons soward was shown for te one dimensional player that he was and that I had always said. He didn't have a bad 2012, he played exactly the same as he always had, he just didn't have the superstar 1 to cover it.

Reynolds is exactly the same and unfortunately nsw don't have an inglis/Boyd/thurston who will do all the play making and allow him to just be a kicker. It will be exactly like the all stars game where he put in a 3/10 performance.

Reynolds isn't a bad player, he just is nowhere near as good as everyone is making out, and in due time this will be shown.

Might be better with Farah at hooker taking a bit of pressure off with playmaking?

I do agree though that he really has to develop a running game if he wants to play rep football.

Reynolds played well and is a tough merkin.

I hope Laurie Daley was watching the game.

Thorson, How could you call that a Dive?
Yes it was accidental, but to imply he stayed down to earn a penalty with how much blood was pouring out of his head is ludicrous.
