i would like to see young get it but if bennett decides to have a total change and give it to jeremy smith or luke priddis i would'nt be against it as they offer respect on and off the field

If it were to go to one of the new buys, I think Priddis would be the best option personally. Smith hasn't been around long enough IMHO. Other than that, Young and Hornby would be my picks.

I like the idea of Creagh as captain because he's always the player we always seem to fall back on when we are in trouble...whether it would be just to get over the advantage line, bust the opposition line on the edges and make a half break, or a cover tackle or a huge hit in defence. He isn't a huge talker though (to my knowledge) but his actions speak volumes really. Dean Young wouldn't be a bad option either as he's a huge talker, a very good leader too and all I described about Creagh but less effective.

Hornby should get it and if so will make him cranky again. I would give it to whoever is crap because it has been a curse of late. Each captain we get seems to leave the club the following year. Barrett, Gaz, Ryles, etc.

Dean Young. When Ben Hornby has had the captaincy in the past, he just hasn't talked or motivated the players on the park. At least Young opens his gob once and a while!

Dean Young or Ben Hornby

but really no one is standing out as an ideal captain....

I agree. I don't know why everyone says dell should be captain. He's retiring soon anyway so there isn't much point. Soward could be captain but I think he needs to settle in first and gain some experience first. Although Hornby definitely deserves it.

Call it heresy, but realistically, I can see both Hornby & Dean Young facing real pressure in 2009 to hold their place in the first grade squad.

It's not good for the team to have a Captain who isn't a guaranteed starter in the run on side, week in, week out.

Sir Wayne won't have a problem handing the Captaincy to a quietly-spoken, non-flashy, lead by example type of bloke.
My guess: Cooperman or Creagh...

I think the best candidate is Luke Priddis, he is a proven WINNER and has the respect of everyone in the game. He has a great understanding of what Bennett wants from his players and while he is doing his job blokes like Young, Hornby, Creagh and Cooper can worry about their own games.
I think Priddis will prove to be one of the buys of 2009 because he needed a fresh start and needed to reunite with Bennett who knows how to bring out his best.
