I think you have to take it as read that if the captain says a player is showing leadership on the field then he is.

Anyway, IMO most here are missing the point. The article isn't about making Carney captain. It's just a way of talking him up, changing public perception about him, letting him know he's on track and giving him a confidence boost. That sort of stuff

It's all about getting the cockiness back in Carney AFAIC because it's lacking and it's one of his biggest assests.
