What's he going to do? Get drunk?

If he helps us win football games what he does on his own time doesn't bother me. If the Roosters were in a better position this year he never would have been sacked.

Maybe the Roosters weren't in a better position because of what Carney did? He was caught drink-driving in February, and then in April him and Anthony Watts were on the piss again. It's all fair to say that him having a few drinks off the field is separate to what happens on the field, but when he breaks the trust of teammates the line between the two can become very blurred.

I reckon a pay as u play deal is worth a shot but Wayne will need to be at his best to turn this flawed genius around. He is close mates with Darius so it may work. We can show everyone we will give him a last chance. Roosters culture is apalling off field and his so called mates led him astray.yes he is responsible too but he has a mental illness and he deserves help.

Todd and his manager will not being taking his price down for one poor season he will be expecting 200-250k. I think a lot of people get caught up in the hype surrounding Carney even in 2010 he was not that great when put under pressure e.g. Tigers game and the grand final. He was good as a partnership with Pearce in 2010 but was a significantly worse player without him e.g. games vs us. I would prefer to invest our cap in Stig and Roberts as they appear a more safe and prosperous investment over the long term.

Unless you are his manager, or in fact Todd, then you have no idea what Todd and his manager are going to do.

What club has $250K in their salary cap right now? Not many. Todd and his manager aren't exactly in the position to pick and choose which clubs and what salary he'll be playing for.

well, that's one way to mush together a bunch of incidental, potentially unrelated factors to form an opinion. not like you to do something like that, Alex.

you're a major in psychology now, to go with your finances/economics/business degrees? you're a busy man. i'm sure Todd would love to get in touch with you, though... he needs someone in his corner like you. do you suggest we do what we did with Joey, and sweep it all under the rug and hope no-one notices?

LOL. Still a dickhead I see.

Do you disagree with me? Why do you think the club let Andrew Johns do his thing rather than control his personality?

I can't see why anyone would think he is going to be a saviour. If he comes there is a 90% chance he'll be a flop. Even if he does play well, it doesn't garuntee a premiership guys. He isn't Andrew Johns or Lockey. Hell he ain't even Kimmorley...

How on earth do you come up with that? He's had one dud season in what...5 or 6? Chances are if he is happy off the field he'll be a raging success.

He's a turd?

We aren't the desperate Hagan era team needing a miracle player to win games for us. We have perhaps the best club structure in place, we have the best coach the game has every produced (reference required) coming next year. We don't have to go for a hail mary play in Carney, we just need to work as a team and play to our abillity.

I think he is the last person we need after Wicksgate. I feel for the guy he has problems and needs help he knows hes doing wrong and dosent seem to be able to help himself. Someone needs to think more of his welfare than his playing ability I just dont think our club needs to put the spotlight on itself after what its been through. Hopefully one of the clubs will pick him up and get his head right even if he wasnt a great player he needs it as a human being.

Well as long as there was some actual theory behind your percentage ;-)

Chances are if he is happy and settled then he will kill it. He isnt a Danny Wicks - he is a guy everyone wants to control that wants to be free. I don't believe he is depressed - I believe he is has an addictive personality and alcohol is his vice. He doesn't want help and there is only so much you can do in that situation.

How many alcoholics in the world get the same level of scrutiny in their employment as Todd does? Not many.

I'd take him. I don't think he'd have a bad influence on our players at all. If anything I think ours would be a good influence on him. It'd never happen though. Bennett wouldn't allow it.

1. Boyd
6. Carney
7. Mullen
9. Gidley

14. Bedsy/Hilder

That's a premiership winning spine right there. On song I don't think there are many halves with more natural talent than Carney and Mullen. If Bennett could get their heads right they'd be sensational.

We get the impression that Carney is a tool from the press, but people who know him say he comes across as one of the nicest guys going around.
We also get the impression he is drunk all the time from the press, but as a self confessed alcoholic he would be off the drink 99.9% of the time, and we hear about all the other times.
As with Milton Thaiday a few years ago, I wouldn't be worried about him being a bad influence on our team, I'd be worried about some of the young guys putting pressure on him to drink.

Todd Carney running out of options after 12 NRL clubs distance themselves

Todd Carney has not only been dropped by Sydney Roosters, but now may struggle to continue his career anywhere as a host of clubs have excluded the possibility of taking on the troubled player.

The Roosters officially ended their relationship with Carney on Thursday, but extended an olive branch by saying they would not stand in the way should another NRL club come calling.
Carney had been expected to join Super League side Catalans next season but that move appeared on the rocks after the French club's coach, Trent Robinson, a former assistant at the Roosters, confirmed they could not sign the troubled star.
That prompted speculation Todd Carney would remain in the NRL, but a host of clubs last night distanced themselves from the 25-year-old. South Sydney, Wests, St George Illawarra, Brisbane Broncos, Melbourne Storm, Cronulla, Penrith, Newcastle, the Warriors, Parramatta and Canterbury ruled out making a play for Carney.
"There is no chance," Rabbitohs chief executive Shane Richardson said.
Penrith general manager of football Phil Gould added: "Our salary cap is full."
North Queensland football manager Peter Parr said he would need to speak to coach Neil Henry before making a decision on Carney, but it is worth noting the Country Origin star had a successful stint with Atherton in North Queensland football when banned from the NRL in 2009.

Carney's departure from Sydney Roosters came almost a year to the day after the highlight of his career - winning the game's most prestigious individual honour, the Dally M Medal.
Carney was invited to the Dally M awards on Tuesday night but opted not to attend. He also skipped the Roosters' awards night on Wednesday, instead partying with his former Raiders teammates.
Chief executive Steve Noyce declined to comment on speculation the Roosters could bid for Sonny Bill Williams, who is off-contract with the All Blacks after the World Cup.

He doesn't seem content with towing the company line. Feels he can break team rules - set by the players - and then front up with "I'm sorry". I don't have a problem with having a drink but Todd seems to continually choose the wrong time to have one. Fix that and there shouldn't be a problem.

Pretty perceptive. It is amazing how much all these grubs want to 'help' Carney, what they really mean is that want to control every little thing he does in his life. It's outrageous. His behaviour this year has been pretty good, if his form wasn't down and he didn't have that groin injury earlier it'd all be swept away. Breaking some joke of a booze ban once the season is done and dusted... who cares really, the Roosters have no discipline.

Maybe Carney is doing the best thing for himself, tell them to get jacked and go live his life. I don't think the Roosters did him any favours by treating him like such a special case. The best thing that ever happened to him was probably Canberra treating him like a responsible adult and sacking him.

I worked in Goulburn and could tell you stories about his family that would make ur hair curl. The guy a a dead set loser and is sadly beyond help, cause he doesn't want any. It's sad cause he has talent, but he's just a ****up. Keep him as far away from our club as possible

^ I was at the rugby league one community awards the other night and I ended up having a chat with a nice bloke who works for the Roosters. He said something similar. Just that his family is completely off the rails. He said that everyone at the club had been trying to help him because they felt sorry for him due to his upbringing however there was only so much they could do.
