Castleford 18-40 Catalans

A hat-trick from centre John Wilson helped earn the Catalans Dragons their second win over Castleford this season.
The sides were level at 12-12 before the French side produced a second half scoring burst for their first Super League victory in six matches.
Wilson, who had given the visitors an early lead, added two quick tries while Michael Dobson scored a 70-yard effort to make the game safe.
Castleford's only reply was a last-minute try by Danny Nutley.

Castleford coach Terry Matterson:
"I don't know what it is about Catalans that brings out the worst in us.
"There was a period in the second half when we were really poor.
"Both sides dropped a lot of ball, but the Catalans' defence was superior to ours."
Catalans coach Mike Potter:
"The conditions meant that the team making the least errors was probably going to win.
"To get 40 points is fantastic for us and a big boost for our confidence."

Castleford: Platt, Pryce, McGoldrick, Shenton, Dyer, Lupton, Davis, Fa'aoso, Henderson, Nutley, Manu, Roarty, Bird.
Replacements: Handforth, Viane, Huby, Ward.
Catalans Dragons: Guigue, Murphy, Wilson, Hughes, Verges, Frayssinous, Dobson, Fellous, Rinaldi, Guisset, Hindmarsh, Rudder, Jampy.
Replacements: Cologni, Chan, Mounis, Beattie.
Referee: K Kirkpatrick (Warrington)

Other results also went their way and still allows for them to make the semi's. Especially with Stacey Jones coming back soon. I think they can make it.

It will be tough for them to make the top 6, which is what they need to be in the playoffs.

One has to say that St Helens, Leeds, Bradford are certainties, and Hull and Warrington are very strong probabilities, to be in the six. That leaves only one spot. I estimate it will be a close contest between Salford, Huddersfiled, Harlequins and Les Catalans for that one place. And my educated guess is that it will be Salford that prevails.

But Stacey Jones can have a huge impact on a team, as we all saw last November in Britain. So it is not impossible for Les Catalans. But it is not highly probable.

I think that that Les Catalans have a better chance of making the semi finals of the Challenge Cup --- so long as they don't face St Helens or Leeds first during the quarter finals.

Great win there by the sounds of it, away from home and scoring lots of points. I wouldn't get carried away with top six chances, as there's a big gap in points to be made up.

But finishing anything above the bottom three is really a good result for the first year of a mixed together team that went without a coach for a fair while. With good home crowds and support the team can build on that result in future years.

Congrats to the Dragons hopefully with Stacey coming back they can get a few more wins under the belt and start to generate some momentum.

Has Pascal Jampy played with Les Catalans all year, and if so how has he gone. He used to be one of the French Gunn players a few years ago (well it only seems like that). How old is he now?

To make the top 6 they'll have to win at least 9 or 10 games in the second half of the season and rely on other results going their way and on Wire or Salford self-destructing.

Yeah he has been playing, he's 33 now and although he is past his prime he is doing a steady job.

Thank god Stacey is back.

On that note, how do you guys think the young fella that stood in for jones has been going, he is apparently coming back to the club (raiders) once he's done over there

I think he got man of the match in this game, Victor.

The thought occurs to me, I support Hull, purely because of Blacklock, rather than the Dragons, coached by Mick Potter . Might be time to consider my allegiances.
