Incredible but true, the Catalan Dragons enter the sphere of FC Barcelona: they are invited to play a Super League match at Camp Nou.
The president of FC Barcelona has indeed proposed to his counterpart of Catalan Dragons, Bernard Guasch, to receive Wigan, in June 2019, on the mythical lawn Camp Nou. A stadium that only recently received rugby matches on one occasion: in the Top 14 final between Toulon and Racing 92 in June 2016.

Winners of the Cup, the Catalan Dragons are this Sunday the prestigious guests of the Catalan derby of Liga between FC Barcelona and FC Girona (20:45). At half-time, the Catalans Dragons players and staff will parade on the Camp Nou lawn to present the trophy won on August 25 at Wembley.

A decision that remains suspended downstream of the RFL, organizer of the Super League. But it is hard to see how she could deprive herself of such a publicity.

Fantastic news. Such a shame that more wasn’t done to build on the successful matched played in Catalonia a few years back between the dragons and Warrington I believe which attracted something like 18,000 people.

On another forum I saw Evil Homer say they made a large loss in 2009 despite the 18k crowd. Assuming to go back they must have gotten a good deal and Camp Nou would likely mean FCB are involved somehow. Huge news.

While the Catalan Dragons will present the Cup tonight at the half-time of FC Barcelona vs. Girona FC, the Blaugrana club made a new proposal to the Dracs.

The Independent has unveiled a bomb tonight: the Catalan Dragons may play a Super League match at Camp Nou in June 2019. President Bartomeu made this proposal to Bernard Guasch for the Wigan Warriors' reception next season. An exceptional event that has yet to be validated by the RFL. But no doubt this relocation will be the match to see for the Catalans next season. We can not wait to be there!

Does anybody know if Barcelona operates as a multi-sports club like a PSG or red star Belgrade??

If Barcelona do operate as a multi-sports club then hopefully RL could be added to the teams that play under the Barça umbrella. They could even play in the French competition.

If the RFL knocked this invite on the head, they need to be put on a floating iceberg in the Atlantic, with nothing on ,but the radio.

“With nothing on.” Are you talking about having no clothes on? Because that’s a very good idea. Personally I wouldn’t even give them a radio.

I visited the nou camp when I was a kid and I remember us being shown other types of pitches and fields around the stadium on the tour.
Basketball, handball and a type of hockey seem to ring a bell.
This was over 20 years ago so things may have changed.

I know this is a Rugby league forum, but I'm afraid there might be some politics wrapped up in this as well.

When Catalans made the final in 2007, they were presented at a Barcelona match at half time. This also helped bring another SL match to Barcelona. A Catalonia RL team and comp was set up (including FC Barcelona) which only lasted a year or so. The reason why they folded was because supporting a Catalonia organisation was going to put the RLEF as logger heads with the EU.

I just hope that there isnt a hidden agenda due to all the unrest in the region and there are true attempts to begin RL in Catalonia again

I think it’s pretty clear there is an agenda here, Catalan nationalism is in a strange place at the moment having declared independence but not really getting any further than that as nobody of any worth has recognised it.
I guess any PR is good PR right now.
