Caulfield Cup

The Caulfield Cup is run on the Caulfield Race Track in Melbourne, approximately two weeks before the Melbourne Cup. It was first run in 1879, and has a rich history in the Australian sporting calendar. Run over 2400m, it is a test of endurance for both horse and jockey, and always provides for a great spectacle as the horses enter the home straight

If you're into history, you may want to look at the previous 25 winners

Final nominations are still to be received, but the list as of today is as follows. There are usually about 20 that go around, I'll endeavour to post the final field here as soon as it comes out

Order of Entry for the Caulfield Cup

Only question left now is for everyone to work out who is going to win! Any good tips would be more then welcomed into my inbox

It is run on the 15th of October this year

Cheers and good luck all,
Moffo

My tip is for Vouvray to rattle home into the places or just out of them before going on to win the Melbourne Cup :D

Grey Song mate. Loves the distance/track...just hope it rains!

Vouray is a fair shot though, has done well in the lead-ups

Note I'm not tipping Vouvray for the Caulfield Cup. She is set to run at her peak over 3200m on the first Tuesday in November. She'll be hitting the line just behind the leaders in the Caulfield Cup.

Not looking at Caulfield Cup till after the meeting tomorrow. To many unanswered questions for the race for mine.

Just on Grey Song, he'd need to beat that bunch tomorrow to be considered to run a place in the CC imo... I like the 13 at nice odds just quietly in his race :D

lots of rain in Melbourne so it should be a soft track today

Grey Song loves it wet, loves Caulfield and loves 2400m

I won't say back it, but yeh...i can't hint much stronger!

Its a good point you make Macca, you have to distinguish between horses who are good at 2400 and those who run the 2400 but are set for 3200. I think that Perlin is a prime example of a 2400m horse, haven't worked out Confectioner yet though.

Actually I'm taking a backward step on that comment.

Have relooked at Vouvrays prep compared to last year and also the prep of Makybe last year. I really think she can do the cups double.

Hmmmmm

Big call this far out. But still, worth a shot. I've taken some long odds on horses, I just hope that strasbourg or frightening get a run in the Melbourne Cup.

People are saying that MD is a certainty for the Melbourne Cup. I really can't see that. Its going well, but it hasn't really raced against the top notch horses yet in this campaign

I'm not concerned about Makybes class to win it. If she was set for the race, she would sh*t it in. You have to know when to get off. I have backed her som many times including both cups.

She is set to run at her peak over 2040m in the Cox Plate. Then IF they back up, it'll be only 9 days later and she has to run a strong 3200m. Not to mention re set the weight carrying record for a mare in the cup which she made last year (56kg). 58kg this time round and not set for the race.

As good as she is, that is a huge ask and one that I don't think possible. Add to that the connections have always done what is right for her. Is asking her to do that going to be hard on the horse. They may not even try it...

On Vouvray, I have been following her prep closely. I called her my 2005 cups horse last year after the caulfield cup. Her prep this time in is SO similar to Makybes last year. And MD nearly won the double...

Few good runs today for the CC.

Leica Falcon was awesome. Can it back up though, only has 48kg. Record from todays race is not good for CC winners.

Lachlan River was a good run.

Confectioner was killed by Williams. Most likely won't run now.

El Segundo was a good run. Like Leica Falcon can he back it up. If they run him...

I'm not so sure we saw the CC winner today...

Don't know about Lachlan. I think it needs a lot more distance...MC horse for sure

I haven't seen confectioner's run yesterday, but sounds like Williams flogged it. Going off its run last week, I'd really expect it to be hard to hold out. Ran quicker sectionals than Makybe last week. Any horse that can do that has to be some hope with any luck in running
