Caulfield Cup

i don't know if it'll get a start. It'd be a travesty if it didn't. Some of the cats above it in the pecking order...the VRC would be a joke if they didn't let it in

i need the acceptances before i go through this race

it's normally pretty easy to pick the winner. find the horse with the best WFA form (makybe diva, lad of the manor, confectioner) and back it E/W

that would mean confectioner. if it starts.

He won't run. Who do they take out to put him in? All the others have passed the criteria to get a start. Whoever they take out has every right to call it unfair imo...

Waiting for the final field to see what speed there is in the race. That is the crucial thing with this race. Then track bias.

The VRC won't get much say. It's run by the Melbourne Racing Club at Caulfield

I'd prefer to see them not have the power of descretion...

While Confectioner had the Autumn off, most of the other Caulfield Cup chances were hard at it trying to get high enough in the order list to gain a start...

Hayes had only ran him in WFA events to protect 52.5kg this prep. The horse has had it's chance to get in, it hasn't. They could have ran in races to gain a penalty and get in, they didn't. They also could have won on Saturday, but a poor ride cost them. That's racing. They took a punt to stay at the weight and lost.

No doubting he is going great guns, but I can't feel sorry for them. Nor should another horse miss out after doing what they had to do to get in. Get rid of the rule that even says they have 'discretionary powers' imo.

I tend to agree with you on one level Macca, but on the other, we want the best race we can get. Look at what happened when they let Taufans Melody in. Improved the race (forgetting the interference), and won!!!

The rule has always been there, and I would argue Confectioner deserves the run on current form more than someone like Grey Song or similar

I Dont think Lachlan River will get a run in the Caulfield Cup.... For memory the horse was about 23rd in elimination order... Very tricky cup this year. For mine the best chances are Plastered, El Segundo and Wild Iris. I really want to have a look at Eye Popper(Import) form as it beat Makybe Diva in Japan earlier in the year. Hollow Bullet will be a chance with a dry track although ive lost a motza on her this preparation. Im prepared to take on Leica Falcon

Agreed. Leica Falcon was racing against a bunch of cats

MD was horrible in Japan, so not sure how to take Eye Poppers form. There are too many questions marks with MD for me to take the $2.30

Give me 4-5/1 and i'd take it, but not at $2.30

$2.30 is easy money LOL. i'll see about that when i'm about to put money on it

and wild iris isn't a chance in the caulfield cup. watch her last run a week and a half ago and she was just steadily making ground. it was a real stayers performance. melb cup is her go

hmmm, you could be right on Wild Iris. I was really keen on her this time last prep until she broke down. Mummify cannot be treated lightly either...Despite the big weight the horse will be on the pace and absolutely thrives at Caulfield

i've got money on wild iris in the melb cup so I'm still excited about watching her in the caul cup. i wont mind if she gets a place or even the win as it'll mean i got great odds. but she wont be carrying my money this week

The Iris is a gunna horse Nuffs mate. A bit like a hot bimbo chick, always looks good, you'd like to ride her, but you know she isn't a winner!

hahaha as like as you don't have to pull the whip out too early i'm sure its fine!

I've always been careful of the ones that get out well early, but struggle through the heavy going in the home straight. They've gotta hit the line well if they are going to salute on my time!

i think wild iris has a very good chance this week.
I backed it a few weeks ago at 25-1

and also got it in a double with god's own in the cox plate at the wonderful odds of 1325-1

I don't think LF will win one of the big ones but even though it was a lesser bunch it raced, it was still impressive. How wide did it come, and gee it got home. The horse has really come through the grades. Will be one to watch for the Cups next year for sure.

I wouldn't read to much into MD Japan form. She did not handle the hard tracks and not so sure she handled the trip over either. Would disregard that trip completely...
