LOL I got a story...and it's not about our Eels boys.

I was at the Castle Hill Tavern on a Thursday night last year (about a month or 2 before the grand final) and as I walked in I saw Steve Menzies and Scott Donald. So my initial reaction:  Anyways, I proceeded to get quite intoxicated when a few hours later both of them were still in the same spot. I sat down and I told them I was a Manly fan (Ewww I know) and how I longed for the glory days to return...& also told them that I thought 'we' could win the grand final in 04. LOL. Both Menzies and Donald were very well behaved and were also convinced the could win the Grand final. Thats about where by complimenting Manly stops.

It was either this forum of the official one a few years back that Cayless picked some punter up in a cab full of sauce and gave them a lift home which was good spirited off him ...I think it was during the offseason (around xmas time) when he had broken his arm the first time. Anyone remember someone posting this?

People have on/off days I guess....everytime I have met him he has come across fine.

I posted it and it was my brother who got the lift.
Cayless was an absolute gentleman.

Surely we can let boys be boys every once in a while.

Went to the empire at the cross on friday night and bumped into nathan cayless and mark ridell .......they were out for jasons cayless birthday and they were all absolutely sh*t faced blind drunk .. they were legless to say the least.....
Walked by and said hi and told nathan good luck and that we hope you bring the title home ..... his response .... 'who f**k*n cares!' .... hearing this i walked away and thought . .. what an asshole .... must say that ive lost some respect for him ...
ridell on the other hand said afew words and was ok ... his comments about smith ... 'he's my boss and i do as im told' ..... interesting ....

kinda wished i never bumbed into him to say the least ..... anyone else here met him?

Not a great response however given its the off season and he did the meet the fans on the Thursday I'd cut him some slack - a little slack but not a huge amount. Generally a lovely bloke, has been every time I have met him. It would be difficult to be in the public eye all the time every day and you may have caught him on a bad one.

I have to say I would find it difficult if people just wanted to talk to me about what I do every day especially when I am "off duty" so to speak. He probably could have chosen a better response however.....

My thoughts exactly Colonel, and to be perfectly honest the reponse may have been not directed at the question intended.

Pissed or no pissed I wouldn't take crap from anyone, celebrities included. No amount of alcohol would make me belittle a fan.

Being a celebrity or sport star you have an obligation to treat your fans right. The fans are the ones who make their wealth possible. Im sure no celebrity when they are drunk would tell their own mother to F--- O--

I dont buy these excuses

Typical Beaver and Dot. :)

And you liked "being" a Manly fan too, parra princess. :)

Fans should also allow some sports star there own time...... and that isn't a go at Sterling. Sports stars should make themselves available but they should also have their own time as well.....

and one more thing, what pressure do they have. Think about those people working hard in normal jobs like miners etc. long hours & little play, trying to make ends meet. Sorry I don't buy any excuses. Footballers should appreciate the lives they have. They are well remunerated for doing what they enjoy. How many people on this forum, myself included really enjoy our jobs. If you saqy you enjoy it, how many are happy with their remuneration. If you say you are happy with your remuneration, how many hours do you have to work to obtain your remuneration at the expense of your family

Sports stars should appreciate that they do what they enjoy & bet rewarded for it. This means not shouting abuse at their fans.

Colonel

I am sure they would spare a few seconds thanking their fans & not abusing them. The few seconds he wasted insulting the fan they could have spent saying a simple THANKS

He spent three hours the day before doing exactly that (assuming this was a Friday night). He is a "celebrity" but they are also human beings who have a personal life, much to your chagrin no doubt. ;-)

I see your point colonel but but people deserve respect. Why use the time for negative comments if he for the same amount of time could have made a positive comment to his fan

His response to the fan would have won him more respect if he answered him in a friendly manner

Oh well my respone would have been different. I would have thanked him & shook his hand. That would have taken 10 seconds of my time

I don't condone what he did whatsoever, however given they are in the spotlight of fans 24/7, it can be considered as an understandable response IMO. I'm not having a go at Sterling either. I have met Cayless on many occassions and would consider his response to Sterling as a very isolated incident....

ok I agree with you But

Would John Howard tell his supporters to F-------

also would the pope say to fis supporters F-----

Anyway we see both sides of the argument & I still love Parra

Who am I to judge a player's one off indescretion?

Well, when we get right down to it - it's just football.

Sure, it's Cayless' job. But I don't think it is his job to make sure we win all the time and that his mind is framed that way.

I think it's about enjoyment - I'll tell you one thing. One of the most enjoyable matches in 2004 in my mind we lost. And that was against Brisbane at Parramatta.

Dykes, our sole playmaker, goes down injured and the boys played extremely well to narrowly lose.

Sure, I'd kill for a Grand Final win (PLEASE ask me to kill for a Grand Final win). But I would also like to enjoy my footy team playing.

Having said that, he probably shouldn't have said it.

One final comment from me, when I met with Muhammid Ali in the states he was very good to me & other fans considering he has Parkinsons. Now that guy is truly a hero
