I saw the Ben Cousins retirement announcement replayed on Foxsports News a little while ago and it made me wonder if, but i think it's fair to say that Cayless's retirement could have been handled better. http://www.3news.co.nz/Nathan-Cayle...ement/tabid/317/articleID/150005/Default.aspx
Cayless stands out the back of the Stadium, by himself, no notes prepared and no family or team mates around him. He appers in his training gear. He was already the record holder for most games as Parra skipper at the time. He Captained the Kiwis to their greatest ever achievement and had also lead Parra to 2 Grand Finals. I struggle to remember any indiscretions against the game and has been a massive advocate for charities.
Ben Cousins on the other hand had this:

He was well presented, had his family there, his team mates and club officials. I can't and won't deny what he has accomplished on the field as it was a brilliant career. No doubt. But his off field indiscretions included but not limited to: drugs use, possession & running from police.
What does everyone think about this situation? Is it because of the agressive nature of NSW journalists? Is it because of the protective nature of AFL journalists? Was it caused by our Administration?
BTW, I know it is a terrible heading, but i couldn't think of a better way to put it.
