NORTH SYDNEY DISTRICT RUGBY LEAGUE FOOTBALL CLUB - 5/12/2003
After years of frustrating speculation and mixed messages, the NRL has finally announced its intention to move to a 16 team format.
On a level, logical playing field, the Central Coast Bears should be given the nod immediately. A powerful club funded by John Singleton and fed by 2 significant rugby league regions would be a tremendous boost for rugby league.
Yet, media reports and "word on the street" suggest that the Gold Coast consortium, illogically, might have the upper hand! Even though the Gold Coast bid falls way behind in terms of juniors, funding, stadium and support, still it appears that the Gold Coast have attracted great sympathy from the ARL and NRL.
Clearly, there is a lot of work to do by ourselves, Singletons and the Central Coast rugby league to get the Central Coast Bears over the line. In recent months, we have moved to strengthen the bonds between ourselves and the Central Coast rugby league community. Our aim is now to present a united front and publicise the push for a Central Coast Bears team out of Gosford. John Singleton continues to chase the NRL at the highest levels.
Meanwhile, North Sydney Bears are in full training in preparation for 2004 competitions in the Harold Mathews (u/16's), SG Ball (u/18's), Jersey Flegg (u/20's) and 1st Division. We are continuing the integrity and spirit of the Bears with 4 very fine teams ready to fly the flag. The boys are hungry and determined to do what it takes and are more than capably led by an experienced team of Craig O'Dwyer, Michael Pobjie, Josh White and Gary Larson.
Finally, to dispel any confusion and unfounded rumors, section 16.1 of the signed agreement from John Singleton is attached for your information.
16. Shareholding arrangements
16.1 'Central Coast Bears'
The parties agree the following basic commercial terms in relation to the proposed Central Coast rugby league football team if admitted to the NRL competition.
(a) the team will be called the 'Central Coast Bears';
(b) the playing colours of the team will be red and black;
(c) the players' jersey will state "North Sydney 1908";
(d) the team entity will be owned as to 80% by CCS and 20% by NRLC. The 20% share of NRLC will be non-contributory;
(e) NRLC will have the right to appoint up to three representatives to the board of directors of the team; and
(f) directors will have voting rights equivalent to the percentage shareholding of the shareholder(s) they represent.
