Centre options 2006

Some good discussion and points made by BT. I will disagree in a couple of areas though.
Firstly, If my hero Mr Incredible was at 5/8, our problems would be solved.
Secondly, In essence while I agree about Vagana being a better centre than 5/8, I believe that Vagana is a better 5/8 in the Cronulla team structure, and therefore the best 5/8 solution.

We've put our eggs into 1 basket, so we need to support him as best as possible. I think that a Vagana/Kimmorley halves combination would work best.

I stand to be corrected, but I am sure that we were in front against the Dragons when Vagana was switched backk to the centres when Dykes came onto the field??

I also believe that Vagana won man of the match honours playing for NZ against Australia playing 5/8 - so I would say he is no mug.

For what its worth, I would really like to see him get first crack in the no.6 next season with or without Dykes. I am also not real keen on the idea of Pommeroy playing in the centres IF thats what they are thinking.

On Moke, I think he is an excellent signing. I saw him play for the Schoolboys last year and he was outstanding, a great prospect in my opinion.

With all that said, I still don't think we are anywhere near being a Premiership winning football squad, which at the end of the day is all that counts.

I think there is one thing we need to get into perspective here.

Does anyone know how braken goes, he is only playing junior football in NZ isn't he ?

Compare him to Bird, a schoolboy rep junior roos captain, if you played bird in flegg he would murder them.

Same deal with brown, the kid has some talent, but no way is he nrl standard, put simmons in flegg and he would look far more impressive than brown.

As for Bird at 5/8, he would go ok there, provided we have a dominant forward pack, unfortunately we don't and i can not see that changing next year, without stevo it may even be worse.

The one shining light for next year is albert, genuine speed, and he can create something out of nothing. Moke if he lives up to potential will be awesome, he has size, strength and can break a line, but that has only been against his own age group so far.

What does everyone think about Nielson?

I know some people here have seen him play much more then i have. I would like to know if he is more an attacking weapon or solid in defence or both!

One would think if loyalty comes into the equation(and if he is as good as some people say) that Nielson would get first crack before Moke, but then again i find it hard using the words "loyalty" and "Sharks" in the same sentance...

I watched the semi against the Dragons again last night whilst on thems cans.

Beau Scott will be a great player.

He showed some balls ...first time any back in years has had a red hot go.
He was out of position a few times but I can see definite potential.

He should be in there for sure.

Won't surprise anyone but I agree with everything BT has said.

People are dreaming if they think the plan at the Sharks is to have a creative, traditional 5/8. They don't want that. They want a 7th forward to take defensive pressure of Kimmorley who wants to run ALL the attack. Hence, bye bye Dykes.

You think 2005 was boring? Wait till 2006 with Bird in the 6.

fizman mentioned the St George where we were ahead while Nige was 5/8 etc. That's true, but it was on the back of his fringe defence not due to anything he did in attack. He made like 20 tackles in the time he was 5/8. Then he was farged and ineffectual as a centre in attack. He can't do that all game. Bird probably can. That Manly game counts for nothing, that was like a game of touch in the park.

If Vagana is 5/8 who will be the 2nd kick option? Hilder? Well he's going to struggle to even make the team IMO. Bird? Hasn't yet shown any aptitude for kicking.

Oh wait, it'll be Noddy, the man who wants complete control.

Point of interest

Criticism of Raper in his first year was met with such things as "well it's his first year, he'll get better" or "give him a go he'll improve" and other such fluffy support.

In his second year he hardly improved, in fact even in making the semis we were a worse team over the whole second two thirds of the comp. We literally fell into the semis. Yet after having his second year we have the same sentiments about giving him a go.

He's had a go. He's had 2 years. Why is is so hard for people to admit he's not a top tier coach? It's more than simply on field results as well. He doesn't perform off field. Maybe that's a bitter pill for blind loyalists to swallow but that's simply fact.

His time is up.

This my sound like something out of left field but could russell aitken be an option at five-eight. Don't know how he has been goin but have heard some good things in the past on this kid.

where did you get the idea greg bird will be next years 5/8th capt ?

i beg to differ , he has been told his future lies in the forwards, so that would be a massive backflip.

it wouldnt matter if bart cummings was in charge , you "know" cronulla dont have the cattle!

raper inherited a sh*tfight and has got the team to a top 8 spot, i cant see the current line up winning a comp no matter who coaches them.

unless of course they renege and bring back peachey, dykes, isemonger , mcgoldrick .....and dumas.....he kills caaaarnts!

peachey vagana dykes kimmorley stevens bailey gallen to name 7

If Sheens built the top 4 tigers around a bunch of no-names, you can build a premiership winning side around ours.
