An 8 team top comp? that would be exciting seeing same teams play each other 4 or 5 times a season!

It will expand quickly - obviously won't be 8 teams for long. Switching to a European system will be an easier way to attract teams from other RLEF member nations that have ambition and with enough countries involved, will unlock sponsorship and TV revenue.

How does what your suggesting switch to a european system anymore than what we have now? All you've done is rearrange the clubs and call the divisions something different! What we have now is just as good, direct promotion for any "european" or Nth American team that is good enough. At least in Nth hemisphere there is a clear and direct pathway for any club anywhere that wants to one day play in SL.

I've removed the amatuer clubs and the third division. It is clear that the Championship has become a mix of ambitious pro clubs and traditional amatuer clubs. There are also two Welsh clubs, a Canadian club and two French clubs in the English system - with, I'm sure, more to come. My proposal gives England back their own domestic setup but allows their top clubs to compete in a European comp. The comp will be independent of the RFL and the intent, would be with only professional clubs involved, would attract more bid teams and existing ambitious clubs. This would have flow on effects with sponsorship and TV reach.... in other words revenue.

I have no evidence of this but starting in the English league one, playing park footy with no one watching against amatuer sides is not that appealing to some potential bids. At least this way these bids start in the championship against pro clubs with decent crowds, international locations and hopefully televised. I'm sure a Lyon or New York bid would be more attracted to fixtures against:

Leeds
Hull KR
London
Toronto
Toulouse
Bradford

than they would against the current league 1 teams.

Two of the world’s most iconic cities have joined forces in a transatlantic sports partnership, which is a major boost to the sport of Rugby League.

RFL Betfred Championship club Toronto Wolfpack have bought a sizeable minority stake in League 1 club London Skolars. The new partnership also includes an in-kind financial investment alongside ongoing commercial, performance, development and community support. The two organizations will collaborate and share best practice in digital marketing, media, PR and fan engagement.

The ambition and investment will engage and excite potential new investors and partners for London Skolars. It is also expected that key trade links can be formed between Toronto Wolfpack’s partners and the City of London, growing an ever-expanding transatlantic trade platform.

London Skolars majority Owner, Hector McNeil, commented:

“We are hugely excited with Toronto Wolfpack’s investment and partnership; the impact they have had on Rugby League in a short period of time is very exciting, and unprecedented in our game. This financial and business partnership with a fellow key global city will allow us to amplify our own ambitions and work together to elevate through the leagues and establish a club capable of eventually reaching and competing in Super League.

“London, to many, is the most important commercial and sporting city in Europe, possibly the world, whilst North America is showing a genuine thirst for expanding Rugby League in a key sporting market. This partnership reflects that and moves those wheels around. We would also like to take the opportunity to thank the RFL for supporting this vision and joint venture.

“We will be exploring digital rights growth as part of this partnership and ultimately ensure that we help Rugby League grow as a global sport. Sports fans are becoming more demanding and nuanced in how they absorb sports brands and content. We intend to respond to this with some exciting initiatives alongside expanding community work and impact. These are hugely exciting times for global Rugby League and the growth of the sport in the Capital.”

Toronto Wolfpack Owner, David Argyle, added:

“We are very excited at this opportunity to combine the brand power of the two global cities of London and Toronto. Importantly our investment allows us to satisfy two of Toronto Wolfpack’s core values; in expanding and accelerating our platform to put rugby balls in kids’ hands, and further developing transatlantic trade.

“London Skolars have a fantastic history and worked tirelessly for almost 25 years to establish Rugby League on the UK capital’s sporting map. We intend to support the Skolars and do all we can to continue building on that success.”

Also get the feeling that from a marketing point of view the "London Skolars" has a better look/name than London Broncos. Might be something there!? Hope things get bigger and better for both the Wolfpack and the Skolars. Strength and power with success to both clubs!

Interesting move, isn’t there rules about conflicts of interest though?

Going a bit off topic here but wouldn’t both London clubs be better served if they changed their names to represent certain parts of London?

The skolars could be north London skolars while the broncos could be west London etc??

Great news on the investment and partnership as it goes.

This. The skolars if I’m correct have been playing at the same ground for 20+ years. They just need some investment and capital to develop both on and off the pitch in terms of player recruitment and grassroots development in the primary and secondary schools.

Personally I’d also drop the broncos moniker since the Brisbane broncos haven’t been involved with the club in over 20 years and adopt a more English/London centric name.

Crusaders anyone??

For what benefit? They’re working hard to create a brand what’s the benefit of changing it?
Also Crusaders has connotations that wouldn’t be appreciated by certain sections of London’s population.
If anyone should change their name it should be Skolars, nobody liked Skol and now nobody knows what it is and they just look like they can’t spell.
