Guys - I think there is a lot more research and effort put in when buying a player than just saying, "oh, he's worth $150k per year, let's offer that so that Parra lose him".
We would have had scouts at almost every one of his games. Our coaching staff would have been in contact with him. He would have been under the microscope for an eon. For those that think we have paid him overs must have a lot more knowledge about potential and ability than the clubs themselves !! Well done. You should become recruitment officers.

People say we have a bad record with Parra players - I reckon Williams, Le'Strange & Lyon are all very good decent players. I don't see where your coming from??

given all this talk about the overs Manly are paying for the kid.. how much do you guys think he's worth?
how much would you expect the club to offer?

I think you're on to something. I reckon they have been planning this all the way back to when they signed Geoff Gerrard. :sarcasm:

:lol::lol:

Sorry Hurri, but Manly are not that smart. They wanted Mateo badly.

Tony Williams on 150k might be overs but still get rid of Lowrie and you'd have the extra 95k on top of the 55K Parra offered.

but Hagan's pet is going to be here as long as he is

It isn't just a case of releasing someone though Hurri. He still needs someone to pick up his contract for at least the full value for it to be removed from our salary cap.

hey Ryan

Would you swap Lyon for Hayne or Inu ?

In honesty mate - I probably couldn't answer that objectively. I have maroon and white glasses on, so would say probably not - plus Jamie is one of my favorite players.

That said, if I supported say The Dragons or whoever, I might think differently, I don't know?

That said, Hayne / Inu are devastating players - but I would say the same for Lyon / Matai..

I know you lads are filthy about Lyon - and I agree with your stance on the topic, but I also don't think you guys give him the credit he deserves @ times.

Also, I will opnely admit I believe Lyon is not playing as well as he could - and looks a little unfit to be honest.

But I also think Hayne / Inu / Grothe and that had a much better 07, and may be down on form a little (I don't know why - but that's just my opinion).

I also think Hagan is a great coach - but understand a lot of your fans frustrations - I think it is only a matter of time before you guys dominate again (when all players are available for you for a change)

Of course but I'm sure a club in England would want him

but Lowrie should never have been signed at all everyone in Newcastle expect for Hagan new Lowrie simply wasn't up to 1st grade and they warned us about Hagan's love of Lowrie and how he never drops players.

Oh how we laughed at them saying they got the raw end of the coach trade

Now that each coach has had time to build their new clubs in their image we see the true value of lack thereof of Hagan

But think of it like this Hurri:-

Burt has come back from a serious injury
Ben Smith has had a long term injury
Krisnan Inu has had a long term injury
Riddell has been injured / plus has the complication re: UK move
Tim Smith is no longer with the club

These are issues with the core players. Lowrie aside, Hagan is doing quite well. Put this in perspective - imagine the above, with the equal Manly players in the same boat:-

Brett Stewart has come back from a serious injury
Jamie Lyon has had a long term injury
Steven Bell has had a long term injury
Matt Ballin has been injured / plus has the complication re: UK move
Matt Orford is no longer with the club

We would have stuggled - maybe even worse than you guys.

Give Hagan a settled season - not a 1st season - or a season riddled with issues - then see how he goes.

And no, I would probably not swap him for Dessie. Sorry lads..but I reckon the above is about perspective - and I know you guys are hard markers, because your used to a lot of success (spoiled buggars !) Hehehe

Also mate - is Lowrie that different to Willow? Every club needs one player like that.

Blame the early coaching contract fiasco for that not Hagan. Hagan has stated before that the reason he brought Lowrie with him to Parramatta was because he valued him as a top 17 player, but after seeing the talent in the lower and junior grades here last yr he wasn't worth of a first grade spot. He would have had no idea in '06 that Feleti was going to stand up and become the player he has... or the rest of the reserve and jersey flegg players for that matter.

When Hagan signed with Parra, he was in contact with all our coaches with regards to junior prospects

So what? It's one thing to be in contact, it's another thing to actually watch those players train and play on a week to week basis. He was still coaching the Knights in the 2006 season, he shouldn't have been expected to do all or really any recruiting and re-signing during that time.

The club would have said to him "Michael, the following players are contracted for seasons 2007 and etc.
The following players are in their finally year of contract with our club.
Are there any priority signings you think we as a club should be doing or which players would you not like to offer new deals for.

It just happenend to be that we didn't have a lot of players coming off contract.

Dont u worry mate, Michael Hagan knew who Feleti Mateo was, trust me... :)

I know what you're seeing and agree to a point. However while he was still coaching at Newcastle I don't think he'd have been in a position to be able to rate them and determine who he wanted liked someone fully employed at the club would have been. I'll trust ya in regards to Feleti, but at the same time I don't think Hagan should be expected to be signing/ re-signing players for a club he's not working for. It would have been a difficult assignment for him at the time. That's something Brian Smith found last yr when he was copping the criticism for playing with a squad that he didn't really want.

Ryan, How dare you come into a Parra fans ranting session and spew out a well thought out and articulate argument! Where is the chance for Parra fans to rant and complain when you make sense?

"because your used to a lot of success" let me just edit this slightly, "because you used to be used to a lot of success". Now the version of that line for Doggies fans "because you used to be used to a lot of success, but that was 22 years ago!"
