Changes to the NRL Video Bunker in 2017

There is always going to be something the refs miss at some point, and decisions the vid ref gets wrong. Technology won't change that. Mistakes are going to happen whether you like it or not, even with all the technology supporting them.

We need to accept this, and move on.

that was fine when we didn't have the technology

when you can have the blatant mistake replayed on the big screen at the ground 5 seconds after it happened, not good enough

So we should expect perfection then eh? It is that thinking which has lead to the constant, dragging delays whilst the video referee checks everything umpteen times to make sure there is no error. Hence the game stops for 2-3 minutes, or longer whilst this goes on. You can't get perfection as many of rugby league's rules have an amount of "judgement" calls about them, it depends on the person viewing them and their interpretation (especially when it comes to advantage).

So because we get 1 blatant error, every game should be help up for a slog of minutes whilst the video referee checks it eh? Sorry but you sound like Phil Rothfield as that is the exact argument he used when this announcement came out.

Needs to go to Captain's Challenge for any point scoring play. Everything else should be called by the on-field officials. If this happened, they would need to bring back the in-goal judges as well IMO.

Maybe they can introduce more camera's.

Colon Cam: so we can see if the player is healthy down there when they cross the line, won't work for Cameron Smith not enough room for a camera and his head.

yep

i might be in the minority but i'd rather they get it right

don't give a shit that it takes a minute or two out of our busy schedules

gives me time to go grab another beer or fiddle with my balls

Yet, how many times do they get it right? All that delay and we get decisions still wrong, yet you want to persist with it? Sorry but it boggles the mind to think persisting with a broken system will result in it working properly.

Are you unable to fiddle with your balls during play?

I don't mind them checking all aspects of the play but it shits me when they check multiple aspects multiple times... if you can't determine a ruling after 2-3 replays.... go with on field decision.

problem is with the people interpreting, not the technology

get rid of the ex-players and get objective people in there that don't go by "the feel of the thing"

The only way to stop the constant video ref replays, short of getting rid of the whole peice of sh!t, is the captains challenge. 15 seconds to call it, networks are banned from broadcasting replays until 15 seconds after the event. The onus will thus be on the refs to make a ruling, with the captain able to question an obvious howler. I hate the video ref with a passion, it has destroyed the entire fabric of the game in my opinion

Resolve by using voting app.

Only ticketed members can access the app.

You have a 30 second window to vote.

If your vote is opposite to the majority of votes collected on 3 separate decisions over the course of a season, or twice in 1 game, you will be ineligible to vote for the remainder of the season.

My preference would be Captains Challenge on potential scoring plays, with replays at full speed, and only 2-3 views of each angle.

I'd also like to see the NRL work with the broadcasters to stop them showing potential referee mistakes in slow motion ad-nauseum.

My opinion is that referees get more wrong when their confidence is low. Force them to make a decision and don't stitch them up with a slow-mo and they will get more right than wrong. Additionally full-speed replays will help the fan appreciate the difficulty of the referees job.

Captains challenge would have yielded the identical result

But I think a captain should have the right to ask twice in a match for a video review if the referee chooses not to send it upstairs
