Channel 9's Disgraceful coverage of finals

Messages

Yet another thread with people blowing their tops yet no official confirmation that this final won'tbe live. Has anyone checked facts?

You're right T but it's not like channel nine don't have form on the board when it comes to the disservice of rugby league.

Blame the NRL. Obviously Nine are an absolute DISGRACE with the way they hoard sport and then drip feed it out at a time of their own choosing. However you can only expect that they would act in the interests of their shareholders by prioritising higher ratings over the wishes of league viewers.

The NRL is a toothless tiger on this issue. Gutless, hopeless.

According to the news today:

The Nine boss suggested both matches this weekend be played on Saturday and shown live - Warriors-Roosters at Mt Smart at 6.30pm (Sydney time) and then Brisbane-Melbourne at Suncorp Stadium at 8.30pm.

Gallop, though, stood his ground and kept the Friday evening match.

The NRL-Nine contract states all finals games must be shown live - but Nine claims precedents have previously been set, including last year, about delayed telecasts.

The NRL's response should not be to say "oh well" and throw its hands up in the air.

If it's in the contract - SIMPLY STEAMROLL THE BASTARDS - you cajole or threaten the pricks until you get your own way. You say they might lose the rights. You threaten to move the Grand Final to the 3pm time shift. You sue them for breach of contract or threaten to retract the rights. You basically do whatever you have to do to get your own way.

If the NRL can't get a final shown live despite it explicitly being written into the contract, then they are an even more incompetent organisation than the spineless, reactive, do-nothing administration staffed by ex-footy players and worthless hangers-on with minimal business experience than we all thought they were.

yeah heard a thing on KOFM this morning about this, the guy "Jonno" who does a spin on sport completely took it to Channel 9 on this one and talked about how much of a disgrace it was. He mentioned that Gallop was adamant in his stance about not changing times and venues because they had been officially set into place some time ago.

Nine is the problem here - they mistakenly believe their highest rating product can be treated like sh*t. There's too much $$$ at stake for NRL to pull the plug, it's as simple as that.

I love league and September as much as anyone here, but seriously I didn't realise the world was going to end because of a delayed telecast.

C'mon guys, this issue is about as serious as my mother in laws smile.

Seven pages devoted to this subject and here I am adding to it.@@@@@@

Most likely the only places you'll see the games live in Melbourne. What is a contract worth to David Gallop?

only seems to be worth something when it's SBW

Gallop has to go ASAP

Who cares less anyway, i dont give a toss if games are never broadcast there again. The Vics arent interested and never will be. 15 thousand ppl to a semi final representing a whole state is a joke, the more negatives this venture down south generates the better! it may help to be able to piss them and their wrestling coaches off for good.

It's the principle and the treatment of RL by CH9 that is the issue more than if a game is shown on one hour delay. Would it happen to any other sport? Probably not so makes you wonder why it happens to NRL.

Would have thought RL would be served best by a 7.30 viewing over a poorer earlier one.

Grandorient's mother in law must have one hell of a smile!

should have moved it to 5.30pm saturday - that makes perfect sense to me

nz time is 7.30pm
back to back finals would rate big time
gives warriors an extra day to prepare instead of 4 day turn around

Well going by Swans ratings, they should never broadcast AFL into Sydney ever again.

That would be awesome.

How many more do you think could go to Olympic Park??
9 are a joke - the NRL need it placed in the contract, that if 9 won't show the game live in Vic, Foxtel can on the main event channel, as they do with AFL in the northern states.
They are covering it with commentators anyway, so they're ready to go...
