Channel Nine Coverage....

I had massive problems with the channel 9 coverage during the Hayne try...

When he beat the first man, we were jumping up and down cheering then all of a sudden they cut to some angle showing some sitcom for 20 seconds before returning back to the game.

I MAY have sat on the remote though

The Rugby League coverage has always been a disgrace.

I've lost count the amount of times they've gone to ad breaks at inconvinient times, flashed it onto the bench as a play is about to unfold or change the camera angle at crucial stages of the match.

Dead set, compared to being at the game itself, Origin 3 was almost unwatchable. I couldn't believe the amount of moments viewers missed out on watching on telly.

Like in the Broncos vs Titans game on Saturday night when ch9 decide to throw in TWO adverts and we miss a 50m linebreak from the titans off a scrum.

Ads during the game were taken at the worst time. They throw to an ad after tries, kicks at goal and any break in play. Must have missed nearly every kick off because they had to sell more products. Unbelievable. It could be so simple. No breaks during finals footy and instead have one extended break in half time.

Yes why can't they just show ads instead of those 10 minute long montages they've been showing before every game.

Then none during the match.

i think a lot of it could be fixed if the ads were all short say less than 10secs and they were only showed after kicks at goal (when the teams run abck to halfway). the prob is they let advertisers stick on 30 sec ads and soemtimes they put a couple fo them in a row...

again i'm sure if the nrl had balls they coudl write it into a tv contract when and how long ads were to be shown.....

didnt finals used to be ad free? (except halftime)

Thats the problem with Rugby League, its so damn hard to advertise during the game.

We all cry that the NRL isnt making enough $$$ from the TV rights, but why would a TV station want to pay through the nose for the rights if it cant make any money by showing ads during the game.

Missing a kick off isnt the end of the world, if it means i can watch the game on free to air TV.

+1 for the hating of camera angles changing during a try. Extremely annoying. Just show it from the main angle and then show it from a different angle on replay!!

With the ad break discussion, I'm sure I heard somewhere recently that short breaks at about the 20 minute point of each half are in the process of being discussed for the next broadcasting rights negotiations. Not the best thing for those who love the speed and break-free nature of our game, but geez...if ever something was inevitable, it was this. Ch 9 and Fox must hate it when a (live) game goes 20 or more minutes without a try, penalty or even kick for touch.

But a few potential side benefits for the game could be: a swifter decline in the number of interchanges per game (6 or 4 surely as soon as this change is brought in...?) and it would also allow games to take place earlier and later in the calendar year (with the heat break already built in...another 2 teams in 2013 or whenever and the desire to have the grand final kept on long weekend Sunday will mean games starting perhaps in February).

Let me join the club as well.

I find Channel 9's chopping and changing of angles extremely annoying. It's one of the reasons I prefer to watch matches at the ground (which is ironic considering Rugby League is supposed to be "ideal" for TV). Luckily for me I was at Kogarah yesterday and saw Hayne's try as nature intended it to be seen.

I like seeing the action unfold in front of me. That's very hard to do when you cut to a close-up shot devoid of all context.

I think the close-up stuff started a few years ago because they thought that it shows the "sexy players" and the impact of the game close up.

Somewhere along the line all the directors suddenly started thinking that they should go to close up every time someone is nearing the tryline, or a Jarryd Hayne is about to run into someone else.

Every now and then it is good for a close one when the winger sneaks in the corner, but more often than not that can wait for the replay too.

Just give us a f**king angle where we can see the game unfold properly you gits!

Nothing beat seeing Hayne's try live at the ground. Brilliant stuff.

Nine's coverage didn't do it justice. The movement gets lost in the close up angle and you never really know how close to the tryline he is or where the other defenders are coming from. Silly.

That's the thing I noticed. It made it so confusing as to what the situation was.

my pet hate is broadcasters showing replays during play. You often miss a tackle or two or worse, hear the crowd roar from something exciting happening which you can't see.

Mine too. It is unbelievably frustrating and I simply don't understand why broadcasters think people want to see replays in the middle of play.

There are very few things amazing enough that I need to see them again unless there is a break in play.

The worst is when they show fullbacks catching bombs - half the time they are good solid takes but nothing spectacular and it's really easy to tell exactly what happened the first time around.

Plus they slow it right down so you're sitting there fuming wondering what's going on.

You'd think they would've looked at this years ago.
