I wouldn't mind seeing him in the Cutters.

2nd half everything went through Widdop.

Mccrone at dummy half did not help.

So much ball and couldn't even score.

Mcinnes on the other hand looked great with ball in hand and in defense.

Milne and Nene on the right looks dangerous. No surprise really as they played a fair bit juniors together apparently.

Not playing them together might be a mistake, like the bullgrubs not playing the mozs next to each other.

I can see them scoring plenty outside Field if they persist with him.

Anyhow, that 2nd half was just so frustrating with all those good players in the backline off everything from esentially mccrone/Widdop again!

I only got to listen to the game, not watch it. So, how did our shiny new " Power Game " go ? Sounded like Nightie took more hit ups than the forwards, probably our best metre maker as usual too. Lots of going wide too early yes ?
It also sounded like we were at our best with Ah Mau and Packer running hard and straight and getting us quick play the ball - who would of guessed, yeah everyone but Mary. But not nearly enough of it.
I'd like to see Milne and Mann in for Lafai and McDonald ( if Mann's not being considered for 5/8 - I mean, he was arguably our best player at the end of the 2016 ).
Apart from that, not much to say. Sounds like McInnes is a huge improvement on Rein, that's a positive I guess.

54% possession, less missed tackles (only 21). Yet comprehensively beaten. The attack is abhorrent. I'm sorry, but Widdop is not a playmaker.

Dont be sorry re Widdop .....hes not sorry when he makes his way to the ATM every week....what other job do you know of where you perform that poorly and get well paid .....and dont tell me The President of the USA.

Well if that's a glimpse of our power game, don't think too many other teams will be shaking in their boots
For me Havilli must be added if just to add a bit of variety around the ruck area
Milne definitely adds something, also like the mongrel in him
Will be in the minority but i still believe Dugan is our best option for FB
JDB impressive
Generally our slow predictable shifts didnt really give our outside backs a chance to shine
I could keep going...... but i will only get depressed , angry or both
Finally in ending, Souths supposedly a bottom 4 team, so i guess that makes us bottom 2

Crush, you're in denial mate, it all comes back to the "coach"
Googles you are the one in denial. Do not tell me the coach instructs widdop to kick the way he does. He has no vision. No fluidity. No fricken idea what to do when on the attack. Why kick for another set of 6 when down by 20 with 10 to go? Always makes the wrong decision. The coach has to go, yes, but don't let our captain widdop off the hook here! He wouldn't make the starting line up of any other team in the comp let alone the captain.
If you cannot see this it is you that is in denial mate.

Honestly what did we expect to be different?

Mary is still coach and our attack is entrusted to Widdop and Duges who are frankly just not up to scratch. Widdop is just flat out sh#t and Duges despite a nice try assist really belongs in the centres. His pass to the sideline when we were hot on attack is more the norm than the miracle ball he threw for a try.

Most of the others did their job. Best game I've seen JDB play for a long time, Vaughan, Sims, Packer and Friz were enormous. McInnes looks like a big upgrade on Rein and Nene looks like a weapon on one wing.

But the same old problems apply, When we're in a position to attack, invariably the ball goes to Widdop or Duges who are just not good enough to run an attack. Most teams have options with their halves and fullback close to the line, whilst we only ever see a Widdop non descript kick or a Dugan error due to pushing the pass.

Both should really be gone from 5/8 and fullback next year.

Same shit widdops kicking no structure has to go. And he is not a leader and take mary with him.
Mate you have hit the nail right on the head!! Widdop has to go immediately. In my opinion he was where everything fell down all the boys were putting in big time but when it came to skill time all Widdop could come up with were weak little dribble kicks or a headless pass. Unrecognizable from the player who came over from the Storm.
McGregor nothing new up his sleeve - same old - bye bye.

Mary clearly doesn't know how to coach a creative side. That's why he always picks players who are predictable and stick to his game plan. This year will be a waste of time if we continue on in the same manner as we have for the last 5 years. Unfortunately can't see much changing. The Board should have wiped the slate clean at the end of last year and if correct that Cleary knocked us back..JD should have been employed as head coach.

Oh Well...hope things improve for the season ahead.

I agree with every previous comment. If Widdop is not given notice then the coach needs to go for not making the tough but obvious decision to sack him. Everything breaks down when widdop gets the ball. He is the biggest problem with the attack. Send him tothe cutters or back to England

Is there are post match with Mary, he just needs to rehash last years speeches.
Two of their tries came from kicks
It's only a trial and selection is a work in progress
There were positive things from the game.

At the moment Im with you still think Duges is our better fullback.......Milne adds a bit of go forward and I think he could end up working nicely with Mcdonald and although young Aitken is still learning his craft I think he should remain in the centres....we need to consolidate these positions...they aren't the problem its our coach and halves Im afraid.. and further with Hunt coming I would bite the bullet and fit Mann somewhere ,possibly at 5/8...the bottom line is what have we got to loose sadly only footy games

Agreed.

Its pretty clear, both just aren't creative players.
