Lomax is to slow for centre much less wing.

Are we grooming him to be the next Luke Covell? Although I'd prefer K Flanno to have the goal kicking duties as he's far superior in that department.

Dragons going for the 2 points on offer. We need a headstart
Surely we can knock over that Souths side at home

This is why , Flanno giving Sloan every opportunity to make it , if it doesn't Lomax will play there if it does work out for Sloan then Lomax will go back to centre ....... Unless Bird is killing it ...... I'm ok with trying things .......
I think this is right.. I reckon Sloan will get 40mins and then swap.. a kind of fullback trial for the 2 of them.

That said, what are these outside backs going to be doing?

20. Christian Tuipulotu
21. Savelio Tamale
22. Mathew Feagai
23. Max Feagai
24. Sione Finau

This game is going to be the end of a chapter for this forum.. everything we have spoken about this past 5 months is pure speculation... as of this saturday its going to be reality.. well as much reality as a trial can offer.
As you say this is really a trial game .......

Trial or not, this is an important game to show us, the fans, that the team has bought into what Flanno has been saying. I want to see them faster, fitter, stronger, and even though it is just a trial, playing with passion and pride for the whole game. The Charity shield has been more than just a trial and the way the team plays could confirm us a favourites for the spoon or smokies to challenge for the 8.

Just $6:50 with SB to make the top 8.

it is, but fun times are over.. fans will now start to harden and polarise their opinions on individual players & the coach... I've enjoyed being in fantasy land for the last 5 months!

Ultimately this game means nothing versus Round 1 and onwards.. but geez getting a charity shield win does add a big cushion to our feelings to start the year.. def do not want to lose to them without all their stars either.

Hopefully the Bird at centre experiment concludes after this week
If it works out and he has a great season at centre then it is a huge bonus for Saints. Having Bird at his best with Lomax as a replacement can only be good for the team and not worse. Flanno probably giving him a chance to prove he has something left and giving him a spot he feels comfortable with, he will have no excuses if he does fail.

Lomax playing wing gives him more chances to get the ball I feel. How often do you see the winger looking for the ball from dummy half for a quick scoot to make meters. Lomax won't be just sitting on the wing waiting for his centre to pass him the ball. The wing position has changed quite a bit since the old days. Also I will feel more comfortable when kicks go up Lomax's side than Rava, Feagai or Tui.

Lomax and Bird may be interchanging as well throughout the game you never know. Flanno giving himself heaps of options. I heard Flanno once say when a guy was running riot over a team that if I was the opposition coach, I would get someone to get at him to ruffle him up a bit. Bird and Lomax are just that type of person than can do it.

The whole reason for trials is to try combinations before you settle on them. Sloan also will be out to have a big game. Saints have some pretty good depth now in most positions expect the 2 crucial ones in 5/8 and hooker.

Not to fussed on the score.

All I want to see, is when Souths start to play, we don't fold which I can't see as Flanno was a bit upset with the defence early on with Manly.

Interesting to see the hooker interchange, hoping Birdy and Lomax shines and the new guys as it should be two half's.

A couple of Charity Shields ago, their reserve graders gave it to us. Flogged in the 2nd half. That can't happen again.

Totally agree that was one of our low points even if it was a trial we were embarrassing. But I think we will be a much better side this year & show some heart & determination.
