After watching footy for nearly 40 years, I still can’t understand why the dragons continue to underperform every year. Same dumb mistakes, same bonehead plays. Making opposition players look like superstars. Just frustrates me to no end

1. Jokes aside, I thought Luciano stood out (at least compared to what we used to see from him). He's lost 15kg (I'll wager Lawrie was on the same program although I don't place Lawrie in the same class as LL. )
2. Take away two own-goals and add the one Cookie spilled and it wouldn't have been another close one that got away.

Maybe we view alot of the players through 1 red and 1 white eye and actually they aren't as good as we make them out to be. We will have the odd good game like last year when we beat some of the top 8 sides, but overall we are an average side with no speed in the backs, no enforcer in the forwards and struggle to make 35 metres each set.

Positives ?????

I thought while Gutho was on, he created a lot of opportunities and linked up well with Atkinson. Eyes up footy. Losing Sele early on didn’t help as I think when he is on he’s one of our more effective running forwards. If he can stay on the park and we get Kerr back we have a more effective pack. Guler at times was playing in a dinner suit and he and Lawrie just aren’t up to it.
It’s only a trial game but they looked all at sea in attack which is a worrying sign against a reserve grade Souths team. They had 30 points sitting on the bench.

Is this the grown-up equivalent of the coach taking you all to Macca's after a game?
In future, Shane, make it burgers only if you win. Save yourself some money and put it towards an effing prop.

Hungover with a bitter taste and a headache 1 hour into the shift with the Souths fan who is glowing like a schoolboy after his first root.

My top 3 Positives:

Gutho & Atkinson seem like they are building a good combination, along with dictating the way we ultimately want to attack. Overall this is going to take time to develop, and we need to lower our expectations initially.

Hamish Stewart - turning out to be a very special player.

We may finally start to see the best of Luciano Leilua in 2026 - has cut the kgs and bad diet, has had undeniable potential for many years now.

Bonus - Setu Tu deserves the right wing spot.

My top 3 negatives.

If Gutho goes down at any stage, we are in deep trouble. Sloan isn't the answer.

Kyle is not the answer either as a 6, 7 or 14.

While the rest of the pack has potential (Couchmans, LPT in particular) - until KK comes along with possibly another forward leader, right now we are stuck in limbo around how much natural progression we will make in the forward pack. It's a wait and see over the course of the season (we ride the roller coaster and the waves again).

Bonus - Lawrie & Guler should be exclusively NSW Cup.

Growing up in the ’80s, you knew that whenever St George played the Illawarra Steelers, it was two points in the bag. Illawarra had a losing DNA. Even in the ’90s, when they had a team capable of winning a premiership, it never happened. Meanwhile, a bunch of so-called rejects from St George went on to make grand finals.
The quicker they go back to being the St George Dragons, the less pain we’ll have to endure.

Question why did you not march to save ur club from merging with another team???

Around 5000 supporters including myself after a game at KO to reject any mergers, at the time there was a push back against merging with the Roosters. The hate for St George and this merger was orchestrated by others to destroy our rich history.

Didn't watch the game only highlights this morning. I am not to concern with the game last night as they would be looking to Las Vegas.Also a lot of tries were from either rebounds or drop ball. I can't speak for our defence except we got beaten for speed. I do not feel confident in regards to defence while Young is our defence coach.

We never folded we were kicked out unlawfully but we marched and won the court case we got our 2 years reinstated which was found to be unlawfull in the supreme court and souths were compensated 2mil and the rest is history glory glory and never say die hey hows the merge??
