The NSW cup games ive seen Bunty in he just hits it up time and time again. Massive motor. Im guessing Cappy just said give me 20 or so minutes and make no errors

I am all for having someone called Bunty in the team!

He did well, Crazy Charlie is rubbish, as is Gavet... Lane and Sipley have disappointed, but have big upsides...

McFadden will probably drop Afoa for Gavet now, and say he has things to work on

Wern't a fan of Sipley? I'm interested to know why. I think he's been quite explosive when he's been selected, although it looked like he tired very quickly.

I like him, but to me he's been disappointing at the top level so far

Matulino, Lillyman, Vete, Sipley, Lisone, Gubb, Gavet now Afoa. Props depth are looking good for us

I rate Sipley to surpass them all personally, still finding his 1st grade feet after his long leg injury layoff. Afoa is safe too but keep an eye on Sipley, once he finds his groove he will shine

One of the big things I've noticed about NZ rugby league people, is that hard working grafters and defensive players are never valued. Nor are organisational players.

Charlie's job is to go out there in a potentially flat period and tackle everything that moves and to make a few runs for field position. i.e. graft. His job isn't to be flamboyant. You need a balance of players in your side doing different things. TJ is a bit the same. So if they don't run like Ben or SJ they are not worth it.

The side is finally winning and being consistent and people want to whinge?

lololololololol

Gubb is lot a hard working grafter, a defensive player, or an organizer ffs. Arguably, he provides a lift or impact of some sort- but I question that.

And no, I don't want to whinge- I want to improve. There's a difference between beating teams like the Knights and the Titans and having a serious crack at winning the comp

Don't know where this is coming from, the likes of Mannering, Michael Luck, Johnny Carlaw etc. got plenty of respect around here.

Gubb is a grand canyon away from that level, to even suggest Gubb is any of those things is hopeless.

I like his energy on defence but really that's not enough for an impact man off the bench.

Fundamentally Gubb's problem is that he does not have the required athleticism for his role. You can't be an impact forward if you are slow and cumbersome and get belted when you hit the ball up.

Someone with his skillset needs to be able to play big minutes and make 40+ tackles a game and I'm not sure we need another player like that.

Personally I want Lane to get a go as he is the biggest x-factor forward we have. He's our biggest body, unique body shape and skill-set.

It seems to me that Cappy gives more rope to established players to offload and ball-play, while bench forwards are mostly there to run straight and tackle hard. Someone like Lane is a bit of a wildcard in that system and maybe he isn't trusted to bring the required defensive intensity. He seems a bit of a strange signing then (same with Ali Lauiti'iti actually) and I'd be a bit annoyed if I was him.

I feel like you're way off the mark here.

We just spent a week lauding a workhorse for 250 games. Micheal Luck was voted #2 or 3 from memory in the Herald's 5 Greatest Warriors or something to that description. Campion, Carlaw, a lot of what Ayshford is doing this year...etc.

Just because we're winning doesn't mean people can't question things that are going on. Someone said Gubb was a good back-up option but having him in the 17 isn't ideal at all, and good teams expose him. I agree. He's not effective with ball in hand. And he's been better lately but his defence earlier in the year was shocking.

Seen Lane play a bit for the reserves.
Nothing about his game suggests to me he is going to get promoted soon.

Again, what is this valuable contribution that Gubb makes?

It's not with the ball in hand.

ok, so he can tackle...'he tackles everything that moves'- on the weekend, one of his better games- 22 tackles (and 2 missing tackles) in a half of football. Afoa did more. Hoffman, undoubtedly, does more.

v the Sharks he made a staggering 10 tackles with his 18 mins of football

v the Roosters, 6 (better game with the ball in hand that day, to be fair)

v the Knights, 9

v the Broncos, 16 tackles and 2 runs in 30 mins

Why is he an instant selection???

I'm talking more about some people on here and a lot of junior rep coaches around the traps. Theres a couple on here who reckon Simon can't play.

The attitude starts at junior level and permeates up through the system. Cappy's an Aussie so he ignores it and gets sh%t for it from some (not all).

I think Ayshford is showing more than a grafter this year.
