From Rugby League Reveiw

CHILE HOT FOR RUGBY LEAGUE

Chile has expressed an interest in playing Rugby League with contacts being made with the Rugby League International Federation.
Adrian Barraza from SPT Sports Marketing and Management lives in Santiago, the capital of Chile. He believes that his country, which has a population of 16 million, would be popular amongst its people..
Barraza has requested that promotional material be sent to Chile in order to help with coaching and getting people aware of the game.
The major sports in Chile are organised by a federation which is composed of three regional associations and these must be formed by at least three clubs. All the federations are affiliated to the Olympic Commitee including those that are not included as Olympic sports.
Barraza is confident that Rugby League would be successful in Chile because much of the population is excluded from team sports.
"The great thing about this is that we are having nations knocking on our door wanting to play Rugby League. This year alone, we have ibterest from Greece, Argentina, India and now Chile" said Rugby League International Federation Development Officer Tas Baitieri.
"Instead of us taking Rugby League to these countries to try and spred the gospel, thes countries are getting things done themselves. We will help however possible but these nations must eventually be self-funded."

The chilean youth (schoolboys) union squad is now ranked in the top 8 of the world.....it's about time Rugby League started to get it's foot in the door of a nation that is fanatical over sport....they even get delayed AFL games over there (Futbol de Australia) and yet League has nothing....after spending many days with kids throwing a couple of league balls around with them I took over and spending hours watching them lap it up as I taught them the rules and played hours on end on a dirt patch (plenty of scratched elbows and knee caps with no grass around but smiles all round) it would please me no end to finally see League make it's way into Chile and especially Santiago!

We may need to send you back chileman as an ambassador for Rugby League.

Wouldn't be a bad life, lazing your days away in Chile teaching footy to the locals now would it.

 If I had the opportunity I'd be there before you could say bobs your uncle....not sure if they'd be to happy here though as I'd have them all decked out in Manly jerseys :p I'm hoping to go back next season with chilewoman for a holiday......would love to meet this Adrian Barraza and hear what his long term plans are for the game!

Does anyone know what's happening on the Chile RL front?
Back in March, I was asked by LU user nzwarriorskuz to design up a logo for the Chile national team, which I did, but haven't heard back from him or anyone since. I'm guessing it's stalled or hasn't quite got up and running yet.

*Edit* I just realised this thread's 11yrs old! I did a Google search for Chile Rugby League and this is one of the search results. Whoops! Bump much?! :p

Yeah, nothing. And that pathetic quote by Baitieri at the end of the article pretty much sums up why international RL was a joke for so many years.
