EXCLUSIVE: Anderson quits!

VETERAN coach Chris Anderson dropped a bombshell last night by quitting the crisis-ridden Sydney Roosters.

He will be replaced by club legend Brad Fittler, who will take over today as caretaker coach for the remainder of the season.

Just 48 hours after the 56-nil shellacking against the Sea Eagles at Brookvale Oval, Anderson rang Roosters supremo Nick Politis, who is in Europe on business, to hand in his resignation.

A club official told The Daily Telegraph late last night Anderson's resignation was effective immediately.

``Chris has thought about his future for the last 48 hours and decided to stand down,'' the official said.

``There was no pressure from management. It was all his decision.

``He was signed until the end of next season but just decided he had had enough.''

Anderson met with his manager George Mimis yesterday afternoon before making his decision.

Late last night only skipper Craig Fitzgibbon knew of the decision after Anderson phoned to tell him he would not be joining the the team in a camp in Kiama today.

The two-time premier coach was highly critical of his players after Saturday night's pathetic performance but he still had the full support of Fitzgibbon and senior players.

Mid season sackings rarely ever work, particularly when you've got a rubbish squad like the Roosters. The Panthers just found a competitor for the spoon.

Fittler is not coach material and the next few rounds will prove it. Id love to be wrong but thats just my opinion.

I have heard that the board is still trying to decide between Frank Curry & Laurie Freier as the permanent replacement...
