How good is Chris Lawrence's defense? Incredible to think that early in his career he looked to be a defensive liability. Right now he must be close to the best defensive centre in the game. He reads the play well, rarely misses a tackle he should make and perhaps best of all, he hits bloody hard at times. He's a fantastic player.

I didn't see the game last night, only heard it on the radio... But it sounded like he had a blinder.

Yeah I can't believe how good his defence has come on. Has to be at least top 3 defensive centres in the comp.

And he is a bloody good attacking centre as well :)

He and Ayshford both had great games last night.

I would have liked to have seen Ayshford with little more confidence in Ryan though - he only passed it to him once and it went over the sideline.

Yeah Ayshford was excellent as well - he probably had a better game than Lawrence in fact. I don't know about trusting Ryan - the one time he did pass it came off Ryan's hands over the sideline.

I remember on the Wests Tigers forum Lawrence copped a lot of bagging about his defence especially from that nitwit Smeghead. I had faith in him. Good to see Lawrence shut up his knockers.

I don't blame him having zo confidence in Ryan.. He drops those balls on a regular basis or he doesn't keep up with the play..

I can't believe Marshall still attempts to pass to him, because its clear Beau Ryan has no idea what Marshall is trying to do, nor can he catch his passes.

Yeah bloodly smeg, that jibberer.....him and his mates banned me from that site because they couldnn't handle constructive criticism. Tossers.

I reckon Lawrence, Ashyford and Moltzen's defence have been outstanding.

Agreed - it's funny that Morris held a position in the halves based almost entirely on his defensive ability..........and Moltzen comes in and we lose next to nothing, plus gain enormously on his attacking ability.

Quick shout out to Benji as well - he has been so much better this year defensively, looks more confident & has made a sh*tload of 1-on-1 tackles. He still misses a couple, but every half is going to do that so you can live with it. It's getting better, that's the main thing.

Marshall actually made a lot of 1v1s on Lyon. He looked safe.

FFS, if we didn't sign Daniela and Brown and just put a big offer in for Brett Morris, we'd have the best backline in the league. No weak link at all.

Then just get a good prop and we'd be set for next year.

Marshall pulled off some pretty good one on one shots last night -

Have to agree that the defence in the backs in general is pretty strong right now.

Marshal and Molzen dont have to be hidden, centres doing well - Tuiaki hits like a tank and Mighty Mouse doest miss many either.

I just hope Ayshford remains in the centres with Lawrence for the Tigers. Like NC, I'd love Pat Richards back, I'd be happy with our backline then.

How good would Lawrence and Jennings be in the centres together for NSW?

Not sure how Pat is going in ESL - watching the 2005 Season Highlights DVD there are so many tries he scored that neither Tuiaki with his hands or Ryan with his hands & lack of size would have scored...

B.bear - not sure about speed and Lawrence anymore.

Since Sheens has had him bulk up for his move to the backrow he seems to have lost a bit of speed.

He was cut down by Whatmo (sic) on Monday after having a 5 meter start

If I am remembering correctly, Lawrence was pretty much off a standing start while Watmough had some momentum already when that happened?
I don't think he's lost that much speed if any, and I dont think he has specifically bulked up for the back row, more just filling out his skin with the regular weights regime they all do.

I recall Lawrence burning down the sideline to make Billy Slater look positively slow.

He has plenty of pace......and now he can tackle too.
