Walker bailed on Brisbane assault charge
The Queensland Rugby League has confirmed that State of Origin player Chris Walker has been arrested and charged over an incident in a Brisbane street in the early hours of this morning.

The Roosters back spent the night in the Brisbane watch house after police officers said they had to use capsicum spray to subdue him during the fracas in the city's Fortitude Valley.

The 24-year-old has been charged with assaulting and obstructing police and being a public nuisance.

He has been bailed to appear in court later this month.

Walker was in Brisbane for a camp with the Origin squad, and will return to Sydney later today.

He joined the Roosters after a controversial mid-season flit from South Sydney last year.

A Broncos player between 1999 and 2002, he was recalled to the Maroons' Origin squad this year after previous representative appearances in 2001 and 2002.

No doubt the NRL with a heavy hand towards bringing the game into disrepute and their clear statements regarding the Club being responsible for a players behaviour will now come out and heavily fine the Roosters.

Any bets on what the Roosters punishment will be?

Maroons dump Walker
May 3, 2004

CHRIS WALKER has been dumped from the Queensland State of Origin squad after being arrested and charged over an incident in Brisbane.

Walker - arrested after Brisbane incident.

Queensland Rugby League general manager Ross Livermore today said Walker had broken curfew and will not be considered for the opening Origin match.

He said the Sydney Roosters winger had been arrested after an incident involving police in Fortitude Valley in Brisbane last night.

"The police are investigating it and they have charged Chris Walker and he is no longer a member of the Queensland squad," said Livermore.

"We can't condone that kind of behaviour and he won't be considered for the first Origin game."

When he was at the Broncos he never assaulted the police.

You can take the boy out of the Broncos, but you cant take the Broncos out of the boy!!
This would apply to most of your players I would assume, as you have no local players. Just blame the clubs that they all came from!!

wasnt he arrested for something at the start of 2002?

He as arrested in Townsville for fighting at a Taxi Rank. But it wasn't for assaulting police.

After that incident the Broncos waved him goodbye from the club at the end of the year.

He was told after the incident that he would be leaving the club.

This will have to be a hefty fine to the Roosters. No doubt the NRL will be consistent here.

If the NRL claims to justify the $500K fine against the dogs were,

Allegedly urinating on the field at training
Allegedly kicking a ball on a football field when journalists were present
Dressing down
Someone unknown and unidentified allegedly speaking to a journalist
Someone else unknown and unidentified allegedly speaking to a different journalist

Whilst all except the wardrobe selection has been unsubstantiated, what will the fine be for actually being charged with criminal offences,

Assaulting Police!
Obstructing Police!
Public Nuisance!

Must be in the millions!

That fight started in the nightclub and ended at the Taxi rank. It was with a NQ Young Guns player who ran rings around Walker in the Qld Cup match. The ex NQ player now plays in Brisbane.

Cry me a River...your club's players think because they got away with Coffs they are untouchable. Whats the wager your club has to fork out the remaining 350K by 2006? Easy money....
