I think the A-League expanding to ten teams wasn't a bad idea, but expanding to twelve only two years later is. The A-League originals got four years to get it right and, for the most part, all of them (NZ Knights aside) have done well enough. Gold Coast and North QLD get one season to get it right before an extra team comes in to muddy things, and a second comes the year after that.

brilliant idea, clive. Capping crowds at 5000 is the best possible way to boost crowds toward an average of 10,000. It's reminiscent of cartman's 'you can't come' strategy where he bought a theme park and advertised that nobody was welcome. Then, he allowed a few people in at a time and created massive interest.

A stroke of brilliance from the fat man.

Here's hoping he has a stroke of another kind in the near future.

Fury are just going to keep growing which is good...2,000 or so fans tonight for GCU, absolute disgrace.

Ugh the crowd looked terrible on TV.

Was this just a one off or are we going to see more of this 5000 cap?

I got told by jobdog after they got one of their highest attendances against the Phoenix of 4500 that the reason for their small crowd that day was because they were only playing the Phoenix.

WTF is your point?
After the Phoenix and the Gold Coast played out a 0-0 draw earlier this year, I described their crowd of 4500 as 'disgraceful'. Jobdog's reply to that was 'They're only playing the Phoenix' which tells me that their crowds will get bigger against Australian opposition. Since then, their crowds have gotten considerably worse.

This may sound a bit ignorant of me but I just always assumed that A-League crowds would increase once the NRL season ended.

Haven't seen the stats but it doesn't look to have gone up considerably.

Perhaps Jobdog didn't anticipate the poor results and negative media surrounding the club? Few could've predicted the f**kwit would put a crowd cap on... especially for their biggest-drawing opponent.

Even if their wasnt a cap they would not have gotten any more people.

The tickets are just too f**ken expensive.

Robina Stadium gouges like no other, even NRL games charge $42 for a seat on the goalline!!!

Drop ticket prices, increase transport useability. Maybe incorporate a park and ride system.

Pity the Fury don't have a home game for 3 weeks because I would be thinking crowds may be getting to around 8k next time they play at home.

I too thought the average would have increased, but it's actually gone down a couple hundred

Good to see such a terrible turnout. The Australian sporting public isn't a pack of dummies, they see this bloke is some corporate turnpike without a shred of credibility for the good of football in this country and they won't support it. For their squad (Smeltz, Porter, Culina), their results lately have been disgraceful. The whole organisation appears to be a rabble from the front office to the coach to squad harmony itself. The Gold Coast area deserve much better than this.

I know there was a similar discussion RE: Phoenix v the Roar in Brisbane. They got a fairly ordinary crowd on a beautiful day.

LOL

As a Fury fan this is so so funny. At the beginning of the season everyone (particularly Palmer) were talking up the Gold Coast and writing off the Fury as a franchise.

And as of now the Fury are starting to get their act together nicely on and off the field whereas GCU are a disgrace and should have their license revoked.

Oh and then there was everyone talking up Culina and saying Fowler would be a bad signing. LOLOLOLOL As a marquee signing Fowler clearly owns Culina, as he does as a player quite obviously.
