FFS, you just waddled in to the thread and decided to pick a fight out of the blue when me and fish were actually talking about something interesting. And for what, you annoying prick?

Don't understand why you picked Matt Simon out in order to bag Celtic. Pathetic stuff.

Waddled  Your originality continues to astound...

Hey I know, I'll just arbitrarily disregard one of their games because it hurts my argument!

Since Lia replaced the useless McKain they've looked a lot more potent.

Being second in the league in goals scored probably helps my case, too.

They haven't replaced him as such, McKain is out injured. Has been for a while. They're both fairly similar players, although McKain has the ability to play in the back four well enough whereas Lia could at a pinch also be a wingback but not a flat defender. Lia is a grinder in the middle third who tidies up well enough like McKain, but he doesn't get forward enough to back up the strikers.

I'd rate McKain a good centre half, an average to above average defensive midfielder, and I'd rate Lia average to above average in a scrapping defensive midfielder role. Both players, and indeed Tim Brown, would look far better alongside a more attacking minded and complete central midfielder, as they did last year when they had Fred. Brown/McKain, Lia/McKain, Brown/Lia, it's all quite a static behind the ball type midfield and thus, while they may have the second most amount of goals, if you were to look at them on a median rather than a mean basis they've been very poor at creating the right types of chances. They get a lot of balls played into the goal square, but for example Greenacre is better with ball going to feet rather than dealing with high crosses on his lonesome and that's the type of action he's been getting. Lia and Brown together looked a tonne better with Ifill filling a left sided midfield role with Barbarouses holding up higher with Greenacre rather than dropping back to create play like Ifill was and leaving Greenacre in the lurch.

You expect anything less?

Timmah loves his Mariners, which is great, but TBH, I think he is more a Mariner fan than football fan. Could be wrong, though I suspect if the central coast didnt have an a-league side, he'd very rarely post in here.

Because he's a f**king Donkey?

But tbh, maybe Jason Hoffman would of probably been more appropriate :(

I think Matt Simon goes OK, he has some talent but seems to have struggled this year. I thought he might have kicked on more. Personally, I'd like to see him in a side that plays a bit more football than McKinna 's Mariners.

Lol, pathetic stuff? It is frightening how serious you take yourself.

As nk mentioned, i could've easily said hoffman, or allsopp, or aloisi, or mrdja...don't take everything as an attack on you. Particularly because the last thing i want is your childish nonsense ruining the best subforum on this site.

As i said, just stfu and let the people that actually know anything about football talk.

Now then...iafeta, i would say that lia does add a bit more than mckain...from earlier this year i remember him being little more than a long vall specialist. Also i think that without brown the team falls apart. Adds some strentgh in the middle and lets guys like bertos, ifill and daniel do their thing.

As an individual, I quite like Tim Brown. Solid player, toughens up the midfield. It's more of the team formation and playing style that his tough style can be a bit hard to swallow. Like I say, I think they're struggling with Greenacre, all off season they were talking about getting a target man, Greenacre really isn't that. He's a poacher, who needs the ball in front of him not above him, and what the Phoenix have is width in their attack and a lot of crossing. Greenacre needs supporters flooding into the box for it to be effective. Even in more centralised positions, the likes of Brown and Lia could go the aerial route too much.

To be honest, I don't have an issue with any of them, Brown, Lia and McKain. They're all good scrappers in midfield who turnover a lot of opposition ball. I just worry sometimes about the balance of the team when Ifill plays a central strikers role he comes deep leaving Greenacre isolated which doesn't work. They showed signs with Ifill on the left midfield position on Wednesday and Barbarouses staying up with Greenacre of things working a lot better.

It isn't all that well known, but McKain is on the Phoenix's books as their marquee player.

There was speculation he was, but no, the Phoenix's marquee position is still open and hence the discussions about trying to get Fred pretty much as of now to fill that spot.

Ok sorry, McKain was on the books as the marquee player last year. I know that as a fact. I assume he still would be this season because they haven't got a new marquee player, but I could be wrong.

I think you may be right, he may have been last year. There was a bit of discussion from someone who seems fairly close on the Yellow Fever website, but that this year he is not. I don't get how that'd work...

They realised he wasn't worth that much money, perhaps?

I seriously can't see why anyone would want him in the team ahead of Lia. The Phoenix have looked so much better since he replaced McKain.
