Club jerseys 2008

I loved our previous socks (the home/main version anyway). The jerseys are okay without being particularly spectacular (although I agree there's nowhere near enough red ... each jersey they bring out seems to have less and less red for some stupid reason). The blue shorts I don't have a problem with. The grey ones, I'm not keen on (although from this photo, all the silver/grey parts look white ... I really hope they're supposed to be silver). The white/grey socks I'm not a fan of either. I would have much preferred they use the same blue shorts and socks for both main and alternate kits.

Knights away is an immense improvement on last years, which I thought was even worse than the Liverpool-St George Illawarra strip. Which is saying a LOT.
Liverpool-St George Illawarra?
I can't say I am a fan of the new Knights jersey.

Just on that colour thing... I've noticed in recent years a major progression towards one colour for a few teams... Parra were smart and migrated to Yellow which few teams use predominantly. NQ seem to be migrating to predominantly navy, but what gets me is why Newcastle are choosing such a common colour as royal blue. If any team should stick to even use of their two colours surely it would be Newcastle imo.

In all fairness though Tim, in the 70's and the 80's (the "Good old days"), most teams jerseys were predominately one colour:

Manly- predominately White with Maroon bars in the 70's, before reversing in the 80's.

Balmain- predominately Orange with the small black v's.

Canberra- all lime green save for piping on the sleeves.

Illawarra- all red save for the white bars on the sleeves.

Newtown- all blue save for white piping on the sleeves.

Parramatta- predominately blue with small yellow stripes.

Norths- predominately red with the small black vee, then the black stripes.

Penrith- mostly white, with a bit of brown along the sleeves.

And in Newcastle's first ever game, the Challenge Cup against Manly, they wore an all blue jersey save for a red collar. You could say the "one colour" trend is just history repeating.

Dropped into Mick Simmons this afternoon.

1. The red on the St George Illawarra alternate jersey is not at all what I expected. I don't know how to describe it.

2. The 2008 Raiders home jersey is in (sorry if this has been covered). Same design but new CFMEU logo on the front. Still inside a white box though.

For some reason I can't see many Knights supporters buying that one. Maybe some less observant Dragons fans might.

I find this image quite interesting for several reasons. Firstly, it gives the exact colours used on the jersey, logos, ect (PMS colours are the Pantone Matching System colours - VERY specific colours - incredibly so in fact). Secondly, all the exact hights, widths, distances, ect of logos, numbers, patches, ect. And thirdly, it mentions under the number a 'district, city, or region' text section. For the Knights, I'm sure it'd say 'Newcastle'. I would assume all teams this round would have the same text relevant to their area.

Where did this image come from? I would guess it's an application to the NRL so they can get it approved, but I don't know. I would (for some reason) like to see all teams versions of this if possible.

And on the topic of potentially buying this jersey: I will, but possibly in a kids size. I can't really see me wearing it around, and kids jerseys are cheaper. I basically enjoy collecting Knights jerseys, so I can't really pass up entirely the opportunity to buy a special once-off jersey such as this. I think it's pretty safe to assume the Knights will never wear it again after this year!

Hmm the Manly and Melbourne away jerseys are almost identical, just replace the Maroon with Purple and you have the design.

For Manly their away one is a little bit of a step back, I quite liked their old horizontal bar white jersey, though for Storm that design is a lot better than the lightening bolt.
