Despite the disappointing position on the ladder in 2023, I'm actually optimistic about an improved position in 2024 even if it is with the same roster. Of 23 games played so far this season, we have won 5 and been beaten by 10 points or less in 10 other games. That's 15 games that we've been right in it and from my view on each of those games, it’s been a few tough calls or poor confidence that has cost us. Apart from a few periods during the season, like when Hunt requested the release, i feel we've been really competitive, which is more than can be said for the likes of the Bulldogs. We've also had a run of injuries that would challenge any of the top teams. Most of the 2nd half of the season, we've been missing 6-7 of our top 17 through injuries and suspension, which would make any team struggle yet we've still competed despite having little to play for. So, there's some resolve in our squad.

I'm confident Flanno can instill some confidence, composure and discipline into this playing group, and if he does we will push for the top 8. Would still love to recruit a proper metre-eater to partner Blocker up front though.

Correct me if i am wrong, but we have 1 current international of note (Hunt), are second last on the ladder, yet we have a tight salary cap and can't afford any decent players. Yet the top teams have space to upgrade their rosters with rep quality talent. Salary cap is really evening out the playing field.

Surely we have some money... we haven't recruited anybody and we've let some go.
WTF did Hook do for us - and whytf did our reluctant captain think he should stay?
Talk about looking after your mates! What a PITA Hunt is!

Look at the teams that are resting players
Even Newcastle.
If we rested anyone we'd be stuffed even more.
We have had a few injuries but eould they have made a difference as to where we are.
I don't think so.

Doesn’t help we we are paying ordinary playears like Bird 550 & untested like Bud 500. God knows what the other players are on. Curse Haran & Hook.

Think Molo is on a reported 600k as well, and Su'a was 650k or something like that. Those are the figures reported. Molo's a good bench prop but probably worth about 400k, and Su'a, whilst a good player for us is probably around the 500-550k mark in my opinion. He isn't elite and rarely changes a game. Good player to have don't get me wrong, but he's a luxury to have, not a necessity in turning games.

Thats probably because we had and still might have morons who pay way overs for has-beens and well below average players.

What about the game against the Broncos, it was 18 all with 10 minutes to go. Crazy stuff.

If Flanagan has any brains he will be attending or if not sending some significant minders along to our Mad Monday otherwise he might be working with a reduced squad well before the season starts.

Our blokes aren't known for their self discipline and the NRL are always looking for someone to punish especially from the lower placed teams.
If he has any brains he won’t go and the following have a huge brawl and are terminated immediately;
Hunt 1
Hunt 2
Bird
Murdoch Masilla
Feagai 1
Feagai 2
Burns
Musgrove
Did I miss anyone?

Believe it or not both Su'a and Molo were Queensland Origin players before they joined us. Obviously they quickly declined under Griffin, but that doesn't change the fact we had to pay accordingly for that type of player. I think Molo has been pretty good lately though and Su'a almost instantly found his best form again after Hook was punted. I reckon they could feasibly play Origin again

Molo hadn't played origin yet when originally signed him for that money though. He played origin the year we announced his signing, but after the announcement. And that was in a pretty poor qld side that Su'a and Molo were in. The only reason they won that series was one Bradley Fittler. They're both really good players, but just in my opinion are overpaid. These small amounts of overs paid by us is what sets our cap management back from other clubs.

God what games are you watching? Su’a has been regularly one of our better players. Easily the best recruitment during the last 3 crappy years. He’s been stuck in the middle of a powder puff forward pack and running off a halfback with no idea how to organise our attack following Griffin’s outdated Griffinball game plans. He‘s actually scored a few tries late in games to get us back in the game. Then of course they blow it afterwards.
