To be honest, I don't think there has been a standout.

All I can go on is improvement in teams from recent seasons, taking into account the players they have available.

In that case I can't go past both Sheens and Murray.

Cheers.

To be able to keep the players focussed during and after all the off-field dramas - gotta give it to Folkes.

whilst that does have some merit you cant go past murray.

folkes has the side to dominate for a long time regardless of wether they win the premiership this year or not.

murray has taken a bunch of no names mixed in with some experience and made them a semis team

Graham Murray.

Everywhere he goes he brings success, no matter what club he's with.

Turned the Steelers into a force in the early 90s (finishing better than today's top 8 - 1991: 8th, 1992: 3rd, 1993: 7th, 1994: 6th) won a pre-season and finished 3rd in 92 (was coach of the year). Was sacked in early 95 for being a SL recruit and the Steelers never recovered. He played a role in alot of the goings on at the club, they were lost without him and in hindsight should of listened to him about Super League. Was a father figure to the players, many stars left to follow him to SL.

The Hunter Mariners in 1997, got them to the final of the WCC and almost beat Brisbane (would of won the club $1mil) despite rumours that the club would not exist the following season.

Got the Roosters to their first GF in years. Was basically sacked because Gould didn't like him and didn't want to see Murray achieve what he couldn't. Murray wouldn't let Gould be a puppet master. Was well liked be the players.

Now with the Cowboys and says he can see great similarities with he's time with the Steelers. Interesting to note, the Steelers gained respect as a credible force in their 10th season (this is the Cowboys 10th season) and gave the premiership a real shake the following year (their finals campaign ended controversially, the same sort of bad luck with crucial decisions that the Cowboys seem to get as well). Will the Cowboys do something similar next year?

A top bloke with the bad luck of controversy following him.

Graham Murray = Super Coach.

gotta go with ricky stuarts

No wonder the Roosters are doing so well there is 2 of him coaching

On a serious note the Roosters arn't leading the comp and havn't improved on last year so how could they have coach of the year ???

Folkes has done a great job especially considering what his players went through at the start of the year and now they are leading the comp.

Murray well what a job he has done especially given that 2 of there top players have been missing for the majority of the season as well and he is about to put a side into the 8 which most people thought would never of happened.

Then you have Sheens, considering the Tigers have a no-name side, a season injury list that would be close to being the longest in the NRL and have some of the oldest war horses in the game leading the side around he has done what most people (except for us Tigers fans) thought would never happen in 2004 and thats be in the top 8 come the end of the season. We have had some great highs mixed with 2 weeks of the worst lows a side could have but to his credit he has managed to turn the side around and once again put them into a position which sees them controlling their own destiny regarding a finals birth

Graham Murrray, because the award is NOT awarded after the grand final. Gettin the side into the 8 for the first time will have to get the reward. However, if the Tigers make it too, it could be a tossup between Sheens and Murray!

How can you leave Wayne Bennett off the list?

Everyone and their dog said we would fail this year because of the positional changes he made. Those same people (led by the Wombat) are currently looking for a rock to hide under.

Bennett has had to contend with a mountain of injuries including losing his gaolkicker and #1 winger for the season (DeVere), he lost his starting halfback for the season (Seymour), he lost his two first choice hookers for the season (Barry Berrigan and Mick Ryan), and he has been without his best players (the likes of Lockyer, Webcke, Berrigan and Tallis) at various times during the season.

He has managed to blood a handful of extremely talented youngsters (Hunt, Stagg, Costigan) who have become major contributors to the team.

Yet despite all this, he still has the Broncos sitting in 3rd place on the ladder.

Oh, and there is the little fact that he coached Australia to an Anzac Day victory over the Kiwis.

Too tough to call, so I'm not going to bother voting.

Stuart deserves it yet again just because he has turned the roosters into an absolute class side over the past 3 seasons.

Folkes deserves it for keeping his mind on the job amongst all the crap that was going on. He's kept his team playing awesome football and they are faves for the premiership.

Murray and Sheens both deserve it for turning their respective team's fortunes around and possibly gaining both of them a finals position.

Bennett deserves it for doing what he does best. After looking down and out last year, he has shifted one of the worlds best players to a totally different position and has blooded some great youngsters during a shocking injury crisis.

I take my hat off to these 5 men and I couldn't go past any of them. I may be able to in a few weeks... after the finals series.

how come u hav craig bellamy there, who took the storm from 5th position last year to at this point 6th, in front of nathan brown who has taken the dragons from 10th last year to 5th atm and a probable top 4 spot and home semi even with the injury ravaged season they hav endured
