Coaching movements

Well, with Thomas gone, Thompson under a cloud, rumours abounding over Malthouse, and Pagan still not safe, I thought it would be good to start a thread to investigate potential new coaches.

Daryn Cresswell would make a good starting point.

The former Swans midfielder spent a year under Thompson at Geelong before switching to serve under Mathhews at Brisbane. He has now returned to Melbourne to "further his career" with speculation rife that he may be in for the Geelong top job. Last week he was also being linked to assistant coaching roles at Hawthorn and the Bulldogs.

Worryingly for Cresswell, his name has also been linked to an alleged sexual assualt that occured on the weekend:

Geez, based on that article St Kilda should steer clear.

The club with the worst culture (hsitorically) in the League, probably even in professional sport in this country needs to steer well clear of anyone putting themselves in such situations.

Last thing they need is another coach prepared to booze on with the players.

Bomber's job is not what I'd call safe atm.

I'd say we'll hear something when the dust settles from the final series and training begins again.

I think that Cresswell will miss a senior gig, this time around, regardless.

I'm not sure how Hawthorn will respond to the matter, given that he is high on their list of candidates (number 1, I believe) as they seek to add another assistant to their coaching staff.

This will not be a definitive list, but you would expect any new senior coaching appointments to come from the following group of names:

Mark Harvey (Freo assistant)
Gary Ayres (Essendon assistant)
John Longmire (Sydney Assistant)
Matthew Rendell (St Kilda assistant)
Guy McKenna (Collingwood assistant)
Daryn Cresswell (ex-Brisbane assistant)
Gary O'Donnell (Essendon assistant)
Barry Mitchell (Carlton assistant)
Peter Jonas (Sydney assistant)
Nathan Burke (ex- St Kilda champ)
Shaun Rehn (coaching in Adelaide);
Mick McGuane (St Kilda assistant); or
Danny Frawley (ex Richmond coach).

I'd be extremely surprised to see Frawley get another gig, although he still has currency down at Moorabbin.
