well, todays Rodney Times had a bit in it about Bluey and the 'Job'.

Bluey has been interviewed and Scurrah is hoping to make an anouncement within 3 weeks.

Yeah I've heard Bluey has got the go ahead, and are just sorting through the agreement and we should hear something early next month.

Not sure if its true, but thats the word going round atm.

I've heard that strange sounds have been coming out of Mt Smart late at night. The sound of tom-tom's have been reported by some nearby residents. I have heard, though this is not confirmed, that Wayne has been seen with traces of ash on his face on a number of mornings.

Seriously, they have to appoint a coach, not solve the problems of the world. Fans have sent a very clear message they want Bluey. He is available. Sit down and sort out the details. How hard can it be?

This sort of convluted, decision-by-committee is one of the worst aspects of Warriors management. That and the lack of league background.

Appoint Bluey - and get on with it!

If they appointed someone other than Bluey, and he failed... man I'd feel sorry for the guy. Public lynching would likely occur!

Just because the fans like Bluey should it mean he gets the position.

exactly!!

i dont get that line of thinking...

The Warriors are a privately owned club... they will make decisions in the best interest of there main stakeholder... the owner.

it may be infact in the best interest of the club to appease the fans... but sometimes the people in charge have to make the tough decisions that might not be popular with the fans.

i highly doubt the club takes into consideration fans polls when they sign players... i cant see why they would do any different for signing a coach.

if the Warriors sign Bluey it will be because hes the best man for the job... the fans feelings will be a bonus.

I don't see the delay in 'sorting out the details' as anything incompetent, or sinister. These things take time - it's better for the club and the incoming coach to have dotted the i's and crossed the f's.

The "shampoo salesman" and his team are far and away the best management group the Warriors have ever had. A football background is NOT a guarantee of any sort of management competency- in fact old-school Rugby League types (especially in NZ) have a terrible track record when it comes to management in the modern game.

If asked for an opinon (which I obviously haven't been) I'd be leaning towards a Bluey head coach appointment. But, my expectation is that he will take two or three years to get the best out of his team. Unless, they appoint Iro and Ackland (and they are happy) along side of him and he works on the current systems.

Fans being fans, will expect immediate results. Anybody who has coached will know it takes a long time, years sometimes, to get the players doing what you want, to get the systems in place that support your system and to get the players you need to play the way you might want to play. All the way along that journey, you have to keep the players motivated. Loose their respect at any point and the whole thing falls apart.

Bluey has not coached in the NRL. He has coached Bartercard and Superleague and the Kiwis. Which I reckon would all be easier than the NRL. He will have the respect of the players I think, which means he has the job a quarter done. Iro and probably Ackland will probably have a bit of respect too.

They do need to make the decision shortly to make sure the coach keep players he might need. For example Moon.

Quite right. That attack on Scurrah (I think it was Campion) was pathetic.

Former players have agendas and ties that affect the way they run organisations. Outsiders don't.

PS - I don't think this coaching appointment is going to come before the season is done. Just a hunch.

Bluey might be anti-Eden Park ?

there were 4 "interviews", Bluey, Ackers, Iro and Morgs...

foregone conclusion really.

Bluey reminds me of Frank Endicott

Hugely passionate of NZ rugby league
Both had success in England
Both had success with the Kiwis
Both loved by the public

Frank came in when we were in a major down swing which made it hard for him. RIght now I think everone agrees we're heading in the right direction and Bluey could be the man to take us to the next level.

Question. Who you would prefer to coach the Warriors? Bluey, or Bellamy?

My answer: Bellamy.

What a outta left field guy haha... I miss the point?

Ha - nah, I was thinking about something that Awen Guttenbeil said during either a pre-game show, or 40/20 a couple weeks back... I couldn't help but think the guy was so on to it, it wasn't funny. I know everyone has been calling out for Bluey, but take a leaf out of Gould's (and Awen's) book for a second: Why should a contract stand in the way of getting the best coach for your side? In Gould's case the best coach isn't a Bennett - but someone who has the potential to get to those heights, but is still beneath Gould himself, eg. Ivan Cleary.

Awen basically said if he were in charge of the Warriors, he would chase Bellamy - even if it meant asking Mr. Watson for a million a season. His reasoning behind it was simple; while the club has consistently done okay with Cleary, a top 8 finish is no longer the measure of a successful season for our club - we need to win the comp, and the sooner the better.

I know we are going after Bluey, and that's fine. But for once I would love to see some real vision, character and determination come from our front office. Chase Bellamy - ask him how much he wants. With a big name coach, our club will attract the top dogs - we only need one or two of them to compliment the talent we already have...
